FEDEV joins the world today, 21st March 2026 to celebrate the International Day of Forests (IDF).The Day celebrates and raises awareness on the importance of all types of forests and trees out of the forest to benefit the future and present generation. Some major forest reserves in Cameroon are; the Dja Faunal Reserve, Mbam Djerem National Park, Lobéké National Park, and the Korup National Park.
The theme for this year's international Forest Day is "Forests and Economies". This theme highlights the essential role forests play in driving economic prosperity, sustaining over 1.6 billion livelihoods, providing renewable resources, and supporting sustainable bioeconomies, while also protecting biodiversity and aiding climate change mitigation.
Forests are ecosystems characterized by a dominance of tree cover and they contain a variety of other organisms like plants and animals. Forests provide food, fiber, water and medicines for approximately 1.6 billion of the world's poorest people, including indigenous peoples with unique cultures.
The United Nations General Assembly proclaimed March 21 as the International Day of Forests in 2012. Thereafter, the first official International Day of Forests was celebrated on March 21, 2013.
