🌿 FEDEV Instills Hope in Mabeta Njanga! 🌊

On March 13, 2026, FEDEV successfully organized a legal awareness workshop in Mabeta Njanga (Limbe III Subdivision) focused on:

✅ Marine & coastal environmental protection.
✅ To raise awareness about the related laws for marine and coastal management in Cameroon
✅ Strengthen institutional frameworks for the protection marines and coastal environment through laws and policies.
✅ Waste management & the role of women in waste management.

With 60 participants—including community leaders, stakeholders, and government representatives—the session sparked meaningful dialogue and action toward sustainable resource management.

This initiative follows FEDEV’s field assessments, which revealed environmental challenges such as mangrove exploitation, poor waste management, and limited access to clean water in the locality.

FEDEV through knowledge-sharing and collaboration, empowers communities to take action and protect their environment for future generations.

On the occasion of this year’s International Day of Zero Waste, FEDEV encourages people around the world to promote sustainable consumption and production, strengthen waste management systems, and adopt a lifecycle approach to resources. Waste should no longer be seen as something useless, but rather as a valuable resource that can be reused, recycled, and managed responsibly to reduce pollution and protect the environment.

This year’s theme focuses on food waste. Actions aimed at reducing food loss and promoting sustainable food systems are highly encouraged. This can be achieved through the adoption of circular economy practices, investment in post-harvest technologies, improvement of supply chain efficiency, and changes in consumer behavior.

Key actions that can help reduce food loss include improving food storage infrastructure, upcycling food by-products, donating surplus food, and adopting regenerative farming practices that help restore ecosystems while reducing environmental impacts.

FEDEV joins the world today, 21st March 2026 to celebrate the International Day of Forests (IDF).The Day celebrates and raises awareness on the importance of all types of forests and trees out of the forest to benefit the future and present generation. Some major forest reserves in Cameroon are; the Dja Faunal Reserve, Mbam Djerem National Park, Lobéké National Park, and the Korup National Park.

‎The theme for this year's international Forest Day is "Forests and Economies". This theme highlights the essential role forests play in driving economic prosperity, sustaining over 1.6 billion livelihoods, providing renewable resources, and supporting sustainable bioeconomies, while also protecting biodiversity and aiding climate change mitigation.

‎Forests are ecosystems characterized by a dominance of tree cover and they contain a variety of other organisms like plants and animals. Forests provide food, fiber, water and medicines for approximately 1.6 billion of the world's poorest people, including indigenous peoples with unique cultures.

‎The United Nations General Assembly proclaimed March 21 as the International Day of Forests in 2012. Thereafter, the first official International Day of Forests was celebrated on March 21, 2013.
