GPA the future of humanitarian-Developmental Nexus in Cameroon

In Furu-Awa, the introduction of the radio education programme is bringing renewed hope to children who have been out of school. Many children are excited about the opportunity to return to learning, despite the challenges that have kept them away.

For families affected by the crisis and an area constrained by insecurity and geographical isolation, this programme offers a much-needed pathway back to education. The excitement on the children’s faces is a reminder that every child wants to learn and every child deserves that opportunity.

Recently, Green Partners Association (GPA) participated in the Accountability to Affected Populations (AAP) Capacity-Building Retreat organized by OCHA, bringing together humanitarian actors from crisis-affected regions of Cameroon to strengthen accountability and community engagement in humanitarian programming. The retreat provided a valuable platform for participants to review progress, share experiences, and identify practical strategies for ensuring that affected communities remain at the centre of humanitarian action.

Key discussions focused on reviewing and adopting recommendations from the AAP Perception Survey, strengthening AAP coordination and leadership structures, reinforcing linkages between Accountability to Affected Populations (AAP), Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA), and Gender-Based Violence (GBV), and validating the 2026/2027 AAP Work Plan. Participants also identified technical and operational capacity gaps, developed priorities for future capacity-building, and explored ways to strengthen joint Complaint and Feedback Mechanisms (CFMs) to enhance transparency, trust, and community participation.

Through interactive group discussions, practical exercises, and peer learning, participants exchanged good practices, reflected on challenges, and developed organizational action plans to improve accountability at all levels. The retreat concluded with a renewed commitment to strengthening collaboration, promoting meaningful community engagement, and advancing the Humanitarian Reset through more responsive, inclusive, and accountable humanitarian programming.

In view of the next phase of our Child Protection Project, implemented in partnership with Plan International Cameroon, we kicked off a series of capacity-building training for our social workers and project officers to strengthen their knowledge and skills in delivering quality, child-centred humanitarian interventions.

The opening sessions focused on child protection in humanitarian settings, equipping participants with practical knowledge on preventing and responding to child abuse, violence, neglect, exploitation, and other protection risks. The training also reinforced key child protection principles, case management, and the Child Protection Minimum Standards (CPMS), while introducing the Gender Transformative Approach, Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), informed consent, positive masculinity, Parents and Adolescent Life Skills (PALS), and key concepts in Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) to enhance holistic care and well-being for children and families.

By investing in the capacity of frontline staff, we are strengthening our ability to deliver safe, inclusive, and accountable services that protect children, promote mental well-being, empower families and communities, and ensure every child has the opportunity to thrive throughout the project implementation.

Green Partners Association (GPA) recently participated in a five-day Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Case Management Training aimed at strengthening the capacity of frontline staff to provide quality, survivor-centred support to women and girls affected by GBV. Through interactive sessions and practical exercises, participants enhanced their understanding of the causes and consequences of GBV, the principles of survivor-centred care, effective communication skills, and the full GBV case management process—from survivor engagement and assessment to action planning, follow-up, and safe case closure.

The training also explored specialized responses for survivors of sexual violence and intimate partner violence, while emphasizing the importance of staff well-being, stress management, and burnout prevention to ensure the delivery of safe, ethical, and high-quality services. The knowledge and skills gained will strengthen GPA's ability to respond effectively to the needs of survivors, promote dignity and protection, and contribute to more resilient and safer communities.

Green Partners Association (GPA) recently participated in a practical training on humanitarian data security monitoring, organized at INSO, to strengthen the capacity of humanitarian partners in incident coding, information sourcing, and the effective use of the CHDC platform. The hands-on session enhanced participants' ability to access, analyse, and apply real-time security information to support operational decision-making.

For GPA, key lessons learned include the importance of standardized incident reporting, verifying information through credible sources, leveraging timely security data for informed planning, and strengthening coordination with humanitarian partners.

These skills will contribute to safer field operations, improved preparedness, and a more effective humanitarian response to the needs of crisis-affected communities.

GPA Joins National Pool of Humanitarian Trainers to Advance Localisation

NGAOUNDÉRÉ, Cameroon – Green Partners Association (GPA) participated in the Training of Trainers (ToT) organised by the Localization Working Group, bringing together civil society leaders from all ten regions of Cameroon to strengthen locally led humanitarian action under the Humanitarian-Development-Peace (HDP) Nexus.

Supported by NORCAP, UN Women, UNICEF, CARE International, Plan International and Action Against Hunger, the workshop aimed to build a national pool of certified trainers capable of leading humanitarian coordination and reducing reliance on international expertise, in line with the Grand Bargain localisation commitments.

The training concluded with the certification of participants as national facilitators. GPA joins this growing network of local organisations committed to cascading knowledge and strengthening humanitarian leadership across the country.

As part of the North-West and South-West Localization Working Group, GPA and its partners will roll out regional cascade training in August 2026 to equip more local actors with the skills needed to lead effective, accountable and community-driven humanitarian responses.

As the first phase of the Child Protection Intervention in the Northwest Region draws to a close, Green Partners Association joined Plan International Cameroon and other stakeholders for the End-of-Project Review Meeting. The meeting provided an opportunity to reflect on project achievements, good practices, challenges, lessons learned, and recommendations to inform the next phase of implementation.

A key highlight was the participation of community members, who shared firsthand experiences of the project's impact, the positive changes witnessed in their communities, the challenges encountered, and practical recommendations for strengthening future interventions. Just as the project began with a kickoff meeting to engage stakeholders, this review reinforces the importance of collaboration, accountability, and community voices in shaping sustainable solutions. With the generous support of the European Union, meaningful progress continues to be made in improving the protection and well-being of children and vulnerable communities.
