Co-Creating the Future of Civic Space in Cameroon: Xhuma Africa Joins the FESECSA Initiative 🇨🇲

From June 3–4, 2026, Xhuma Africa stood alongside 30 leading civil society organizations in Buea for a two-day workshop. Organized by the Reconciliation and Development Association -RADA with vital support from CIVICUS: World Alliance for Citizen Participation, the forum focused on “Strengthening Civil Society Coordination for Human Rights Protection and State–Civil Society Engagement in Cameroon.”

As a youth-led organization, our participation was intentional. Democracy and national development thrive when the state and its citizens remain constructively connected. As beautifully echoed during the opening by Rev. Ayuk Solomon (representing the PCC Moderator), “For a government to work without CSO is to strip itself of its conscience.” Rolling Up Our Sleeves: The Co-Creation of FESECSA
This was not just a workshop of speeches; it was a hands-on laboratory for institutional change. Xhuma Africa actively participated in working groups to co-author Draft 1 of FESECSA (Framework for Engagement between the State and Civil Society Actors in Cameroon). Together, we tackled the framework's 12 core components ranging from the rights and responsibilities of CSOs to dispute resolution mechanisms and a concrete implementation roadmap.

By participating directly in this process, Xhuma Africa ensured that the unique vulnerabilities, protection needs, and aspirations of Cameroonian youth are reflected in the upcoming national mechanism.

Legal Compliance & Legislative Backing
The forum also emphasized the importance of accountability and legal compliance. We were encouraged by Hon. Agho Oliver, who reminded participants to maintain structural compliance with the law, stating, “No representative of the people, and entire parliament, should work without the Civil society being their backbone.” With champions like Hon. Agho Oliver and Hon. Malomba Esembe committed to fronting this framework to lawmakers, we are confident that a more secure, protected, and consultative civic space is within reach.

The road ahead involves unifying the draft and developing a powerful policy brief. Xhuma Africa remains unyielding in its commitment to supporting initiatives that empower citizens, promote legal compliance, and ensure that young people’s voices are permanently anchored in decision-making bodies.

We extend our gratitude to RADA, CEO Mbiydzenyuy Ferdinant Sonyuy, and CIVICUS for spearheading this milestone.

The work continues. Watch this space! 👁️✨

🕊️ Partnering for Peace: Xhuma Africa at the North West Women Mediators’ Summit! 🌍
We are happy to celebrate a landmark milestone in our journey toward sustainable peace and community development in Cameroon! Xhuma Africa proudly served as a collaborative partner organization at the historic North West Women Mediators’ Summit, recently organized by Mother Of Hope Cameroon - Mohcam at the Cathedral Hall, Big Mankon in Bamenda (June 4–5, 2026).

This powerful, two-day summit brought together top dignitaries, delegates, and women from all seven Divisions of the North West Region, culminating in the official launch of the Women Mediation Network.

👑 Tradition Meets Transformation
The summit was beautifully validated by the presence of over 21 traditional Fons and regional leaders. In a deeply moving display of unity, these traditional custodians stood firmly behind the initiative, opening doors for women to stand alongside them in formal dialogue and decision-making conversations.

💼 Leadership in Action
Representing Xhuma Africa leadership team was our dedicated Administrative Officer, Lawong Yaah. Building on the training sessions she underwent last year, Dr. Lawong’s presence ensured a seamless link to our core institutional objectives.

During the breakout sessions on the final day, she focused entirely on the long-term sustainability of the mediation network. As a trained mediator, her active role perfectly mirrors Xhuma Africa’s commitment to:

-Grassroots Leadership & Advocacy

-Inclusive, Empathy-Based Conflict Resolution

-Non-Violent Communication

By championing women as central figures in formal peace processes, we are actively breaking down societal vulnerabilities and structural barriers affecting young women in conflict-affected communities.

🙌 Empowering Our Youth Volunteers
At Xhuma Africa, we believe in creating platforms for young changemakers to lead. We are proud of our youth volunteers who stepped up to serve during this memorable event!

"It was a mind-blowing experience. If women are given the right platforms and opportunities, they will contribute mightily to peacebuilding and nation-building. I am deeply grateful to Xhuma Africa and MOHCAM for the opportunity to serve." > Mbong Janine Xhuma Africa Volunteer

🚀 Moving Forward Together
This milestone marks a powerful step forward. We extend our profound gratitude to Mother of Hope Cameroon - Mohcam for their visionary leadership and partnership. Together, we are building a reliable framework where peace, equality, and community development can truly flourish.

🌍 WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY 2026 🌱

Nature does not need us, but we need nature. Today, Xhuma Africa proudly joins the global community and our fellow green advocates to celebrate World Environment Day 2026 under the theme: "Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future."

As a network member of the Network of Environmental Stakeholders Cameroon (NEST-CAM), we are thrilled to have collaborated on an impactful series of commemorative activities. This collective effort was beautifully organized under the coordination of the Regional Delegation of Environment, Protection of Nature and Sustainable Development (MINEPDED).

🌿 Our Collective Actions in Action
To mark this day, our joint initiatives targeted both broad awareness and direct grassroots impact:

Radio Sensitization Talks: Spreading environmental education and climate action messages across the airwaves of CRTVweb.

Quiz Competitions: Engaging minds and fostering environmental knowledge among community members.

Tree Donation & Tree Planting: Putting words into action by rooting real solutions directly into our soils to restore degraded ecosystems.

Educative Sessions at the Palace of Mendankwe: Gathering for impactful community dialogues at the historic Palace of Mendankwe to foster sustainable environmental protection practices.

Every tree planted, every conversation started, and every youth engaged brings us one step closer to building greener, more resilient communities. Let us keep joining hands to protect our shared home, because every small action counts toward a sustainable future!

Check out the official campaign banner and moments from our community outreach.

🌿 Protect Nature. Restore Ecosystems. Secure Our Future.

Happy World Environment Day 2026! 🇨🇲

Looking back at this moment from our archive, we are reminded of the power of teamwork, focus, and community action. Seeing everyone gathered together, hands-on and fully engaged, is a beautiful testament to what happens when shared passion meets dedicated effort.

Every big change starts with these exact moments: learning, collaborating, and working side-by-side to build a better tomorrow.

To all our amazing followers and members: whatever task, project, or goal you are tackling today, approach it with the same dedication and unity. Your efforts, no matter how small they may seem, are creating waves of positive impact.

Today, on World No To***co Day, Xhuma Africa stands firm in the global movement to protect our youth and communities from the devastating impact of to***co and ni****ne addiction. 🚭

This year’s theme, "Unmasking the Appeal: Countering Ni****ne and To***co Addiction," hits close to home. It is a vital call to expose the deceptive tactics used by the to***co industry to hook the next generation through trendy packaging, appealing flavors, and misleading marketing.

To commemorate this important day, Xhuma Africa Auditorium was honored to host a one-day capacity-building workshop organized by the Peter Bryan Onco-Health Initiative (PBOHI) in collaboration with Awaremax. Together, we are bridging the gap in cancer education, promoting healthy choices, and empowering young people to say "No" to to***co and "Yes" to a brighter, healthier future.

Let’s keep the conversation going for strong lungs, a strong future, and a smoke-free community.

Empowering Leaders to Build Bridges, Not Barriers
🕊️
At the recent Momo Divisional Youth Symposium for Peace and Development, it was an honor for our founder Nduku Louis Tebi to facilitate the session on Peace and Conflict Management Strategies Within Associations.
Youth associations are the heartbeat of our communities. To ensure they remain safe havens for collaboration and progress, our leaders must be equipped with the right tools to navigate friction. During our session, we explored:
• Proactive Conflict Resolution: Strategies to identify and address interpersonal disputes before they escalate.
• Structural Harmony: Best practices for managing organizational friction to keep groups unified and focused on their mission.
• Leading for Impact: How to transform potential centers of division into engines of positive change and development.

Seeing over 500 dynamic youth leaders from Mbengwi, Batibo, Widikum, Andek, and Njikwa commit to a future of peace and sustainable development was truly inspiring. Together, we are "Breaking Barriers and Igniting Possibilities."
Let’s continue to lead with empathy, resolve, and a vision for a stronger, more united Momo Division.
