YouthFORCE presented its policy brief on survivor-centred protection, justice and accountability in Cameroonโs emerging Gender-Based Violence law to the Cameroon Human Rights Commission.
The brief brings evidence from adolescent girls, young women and survivors, revealing critical gaps in awareness of the emerging GBV law, reporting, institutional trust and access to justice.
For girls and survivors, these are not abstract policy gaps. They shape whether a person knows where to seek help, whether a case moves forward and whether institutions respond when protection fails.
Engaging the Cameroon Human Rights Commission was therefore about taking this evidence to an institution with a critical role in human rights protection, oversight and accountability.
One key recommendation is to Establish an independent regional GBV monitoring mechanism in the Northwest Region to document and track GBV cases, monitor institutional response and identify where survivors are falling through the gaps, with findings used to strengthen accountability.
Survivor voices have given us the evidence. The next step is ensuring that institutions act on it.
