Every month, millions of girls are expected to “just cope.”
But what happens when coping becomes silence?
Menstruation is not a weakness.
It is not something to hide.
It is not something to be ashamed of.
Yet, for many girls, especially in underserved communities, periods still mean:
• Missed school days
• Embarrassment and isolation
• Lack of access to basic sanitary products
• Silence instead of support
And the truth is simple:
When we don’t talk about menstruation, we don’t solve the problem, we sustain it.
At UNIMAC (Universal Maidens Association of Cameroon), we believe that dignity should never pause because of a period.
That’s why this May, we continue to raise awareness, break the silence, and advocate for:
Period education
Access to sanitary products
Safe spaces for girls to learn and speak freely
Because a girl should never have to choose between her dignity and her education.
This conversation is not just about periods.
It is about equality, confidence, and opportunity.
P.S. What is one thing you wish more people understood about menstruation?
