MESSAGE FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR GIDICom

International Labour Day 2026

Dear team members,

On this International Labour Day, I want to honor you — the people powering the Global Initiative for Digital Inclusion and Communication.

Your labour builds bridges. Every workshop you facilitate, every community you connect, every barrier you help break down online — it brings us closer to a world where access, voice, and dignity are not privileges, but rights.

Digital inclusion work is often unseen. Yet it is your skill, creativity, and commitment that ensure technology reaches the underserved, that information is accessible, and that no one is left behind in the digital age.

I see your effort. The hours you invest. The problems you solve. The people you empower. This work has dignity, and you do it with excellence.

As Executive Director, my pledge is this: GIDICom will be a place where your labour is respected, your growth is supported, and your well-being comes first. We can only drive inclusion outward if we practice it within.

Take today to rest and reflect. You’ve earned it.

Happy International Labour Day 2026.

‼️ RED ALERT‼️ : INTERNET DISRUPTIONS AS CAMEROON AWAITS ELECTION RESULTS

Since early this morning, internet access across Cameroon has been unstable. Pages won’t load. Messages are delayed. VPNs are struggling. And the silence is growing louder.

This is not a technical glitch. It’s a tactic.
Across Africa, governments have used internet shutdowns to suppress truth, delay accountability, and isolate citizens especially during elections. Cameroon is now walking that line.

🌍 This Pattern Is Familiar

✨ Uganda (2021): Full internet blackout before and after voting

✨ DR Congo (2018): Internet and SMS blocked for 20+ days during vote counting

✨ Zimbabwe (2019): Social media blocked amid post-election protests

✨ Tanzania (2020): VPNs throttled, apps restricted to control narratives

✨ Gabon (2016): Internet cut after contested results sparked unrest

✨ Cameroon (2017–2018): Anglophone regions silenced for over 230 days

✨ These shutdowns are not about security. They are about control.

🚨 What You Can Do Now

🎈Use trusted VPNs like ProtonVPN or Zenshield to stay online

🎈Switch to secure apps like Signal or Briar that work in low-bandwidth

🎈Document everything: time, location, screenshots of outages

🎈Share offline: via SMS, radio, or community networks

🎈Speak up: silence is not safety, it’s strategy

🎈Demand transparency: from telecom providers, election bodies, and leaders

🛡️ This Is Bigger Than Bandwidth

📍Disrupting the internet is a way to disrupt democracy.

📍We must stay connected.

📍We must stay informed. We must stay loud.

📍Let no one steal our voice in the name of control.

Cameroon 🇨🇲 Presidential Election is hours away.

To all Internet Service Providers: do not disrupt or restrict access to the internet during this critical moment for our democracy. Connectivity is not a luxury it is the lifeline for information, accountability, and free participation at the ballot box.

The Global Initiative for Digital Inclusion and Communication stands with voters, civil society, journalists, and election observers who rely on uninterrupted access to share information, report issues, and make informed choices.

Preserve the flow of information now so citizens can exercise their rights safely and transparently. Connectivity is democracy.
