Happy Campaign Friday Fam🤗,

According to RADA's Knowledge Attitude and Behavioral survey (2024), 6 out of 10 people living in urban areas are likely to eat Ultra-processed products daily😯.

In recent times, research increasingly links high consumption of ultra-processed foods to:

⛔Obesity and overweight
⛔Type 2 diabetes
⛔ Cardiovascular conditions
⛔Depression and poor mental health
⛔Higher risk of certain cancers
⛔Reduced quality of life

If a health tax is placed on Ultra-Processed Products and sweetened beverages lives will be saved leading to a thriving economy with a healthy and active population. Taxing and is a triple win for the country 💪. The Africa NCDs Network Executive Director, Ferdinant M. Sonyuy will be joining the Scientific Committee of the Global Think-Tank on Steatotic Liver Disease and contributing to a growing global movement working to elevate liver health within the broader metabolic health agenda.

The Global Think-Tank on Steatotic Liver Disease vision is clear:
A future where steatotic liver disease is recognised as a global public health priority addressed through early diagnosis, prevention, and equitable treatment and care. By 2030, liver health should be fully integrated into city, national, and global NCD strategies, helping reduce preventable deaths, health inequities, and the growing burden of metabolic disease worldwide.

We as a network are looking forward to solid discussions and conversations with other colleagues and partners at the upcoming flagship event of the Global Think-Tank on Steatotic Liver Disease on 26 May in Barcelona.

Dear Fam😊

Earlier this month, RADA's CEO Mr. Ferdinant M. Sonyuy met with global partners in New York to reflect on nearly a decade of progress in strengthening heart health. The work to build a healthier world continues💪. With sustained collaboration and commitment, we can save 100 million lives from cardiovascular disease.

To us, a partnership is a way of saving lives. RADA works hard to put employment and impact together. Solving problems and working with relevant stakeholders. We work with the willing and encourage all relevant stakeholders to partner with us to save more lives in Cameroon and abroad.

It was a well-planned meeting and it was such a privilege to hold a one on one session with Dr Tom Friedon, former Director of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention now President of Resolve to Save Lives and author of “The formula for better health; how to save millions of life including your own”.

It was also a great honor to meet, listen to, and shake the hands of the great businessman, entrepreneur, statesman and philanthropist, Michael Bloomberg🤗.

In a world shaped by differences and complexities, peace is not accidental it is built. It is built through dialogue, through inclusion, through the courage to reconcile and the willingness to trust.

This year's theme, "Building Trust through Dialogue, Inclusion and Reconciliation," speaks directly to what our communities need most. Sustainable peace begins when every voice is heard, every person feels valued, and no one is left at the margins.

At RADA we believe peacebuilding is a shared responsibility. It lives in the conversations we choose to have, the differences we choose to embrace, and the bridges we choose to build together.

Today and every day, we commit to:
🤝 Nurturing trust across communities
🗣️ Amplifying dialogue over division
🌍 Celebrating diversity as a source of strength
💛 Championing inclusion and reconciliation in all we do.

Let us inspire hope, restore trust, and build a culture of peace where every person can live with dignity and harmony.

Happy International Day of Living Together in Peace. 🌿

The objective of this workshop was to develop a simple, reliable, and locally adaptable system to track, analyze, and improve household participation in governance processes, civil rights activities, and community participation.

MEAL/ M and experts and Program Managers to share knowledge, align perspectives to co-create practical approaches for effective monitoring and learning.

The knowledge gained from this insightful workshop will go a long way to refine RADA's M and E system for our work.

In our world today, GBV is very broad with several sub-categories one of which is School-Related Gender-Based Violence (SRGBV). At the start of the month, the team had a session with the Christian Youth Fellowship of PCC Ccast Complex Bambili on domestic violence and School-Related .

Some of the driving forces behind SRGBV are strongly associated with harmful social norms and practices such as bullying, threatening, ridiculing and harassment in and around the school environment.

Also, the practice of domestic violence, which comes from most individuals who were born into abusive marriages or lived it in homes where domestic violence was practiced, tends to see it as quite normal, and some people believe that it is a way of disciplining a stubborn or naughty wife.

Key take-home lessons were;

✅As a survivor, it's not your fault that you were abused and you are not alone cause no one deserves to be abused.
✅Always run to a reputable hospital and establish a Medico Legal certificate to support your claim, against a perpetrator.
✅Bear in mind that domestic violence is not only against the United Nations’ Code of Conduct but you may be subject to criminal prosecution and eventual imprisonment in cases where the victim suffers from either of the various categories of injury or harm sanctioned under Sections 278, 280, and 281 of the Cameroon Penal Code.
