This International Women’s Day, we want to highlight the incredible women who are part of our projects. 🇨🇲💪🏾💪🏿💪🏼

Life in the Northwest has not been easy in recent years. Many families have faced uncertainty and displacement. And as is so often the case, women and children have been among the most affected by the crisis.

What inspires us most is not only their strength as individuals, but the power they create together despite the circumstances. When women connect, support one another, and share knowledge and experience, something truly powerful happens. We are so proud to work alongside such strong and resilient women.💜

🇨🇲Last month Alma and Annalea were in Cameroon’s capital Yaoundé where they got together with Lina began their journey with a special at the Swiss Embassy where they had the opportunity to meet the Ambassador and speak about our work and the current situation in the country.

📍From there, they continued to Bafoussam, where they met Valentine and Vera. Our projects take place in the Northwest of Cameroon, in the English-speaking part of the country around Bamenda. Due to the ongoing conflict in the country, traveling there was unfortunately not possible, which is why Bafoussam was chosen as a safe meeting point.

👂On the ground, our focus was clear: listening, understanding, planning, and developing new project ideas together.

📝During a joint session – with Céline and Vanessa joining online – the entire anang&ilema team came together to evaluate ongoing projects, openly discuss challenges, and shape new ideas for the future.

🫂At the heart of our visit was the opportunity to meet women from the two sewing formatin and the training projects. We had the privilege of listening to their stories, speaking about their experiences, and learning about their plans and dreams for the future.

💪 These were intense and incredibly inspiring days. New ideas were born, and we were able to witness firsthand the change that anang&ilema makes possible.

What is happening in Cameroon?

Since 2016, Cameroon’s anglophone regions have been caught in a violent crisis between armed separatist groups and government forces. Villages have been destroyed, schools shut down, and millions of people forced to flee their homes. Yet despite the scale of the crisis, it receives little global attention. In 2025, the named Cameroon the world’s most neglected displacement crisis.

At anang&ilema, we work in the Northwest with women in rural communities to build and strengthen independence, income, and long-term resilience despite the crisis.🇨🇲

✨ Happy New Year ✨

We started the year with a workshop on income-generating activities. The workshop focused on producing laundry soap (Omo), body lotion, and ginger sweets, with attention to correct quantities and fair selling prices.

Another key part of the workshop was learning how to pass on the acquired knowledge to others. These workshops share practical skills, strengthen communities, and create sustainable income opportunities. 💜

These women are part of the anang&ilema Twang-Ntam group 🌿

The group participated in Project 4 (2022–2023). Like other groups from past projects, we continue to visit them regularly, for example during their monthly financial meetings, to offer guidance and encouragement. ✨

These ongoing visits help strengthen the group’s activities and ensure lasting impact. 💛

Since September 2025, our new project “Train-the-Trainer” has been running 🌱
In this project, women take part in various workshops and trainings on different topics and, on one hand, acquire knowledge for themselves, and on the other hand, also learn how to share their knowledge with other women in their communities, allowing impact to grow from within 💪🏾🖤🤍

Wir freuen uns riesig, Lina als neues Teammitglied bei anang&ilema willkommen zu heissen! ✨

Seit September 2025 lebt sie in Yaoundé, wo sie unsere Projekte und Zusammenarbeit direkt vor Ort mitgestaltet und lokale Partnerschaften aufbaut. 🇨🇲

Schon 2023 hatte sie im Rahmen eines Praktikums auf der Schweizer Botschaft in Yaoundé die Möglichkeit, das Land und seine Menschen kennenzulernen.

Wir freuen uns riesig auf die Zusammenarbeit mit ihr und sind stolz, sie mit an Bord zu haben! ✨

anang&ilema Benefizkonzert 2025 🎻

🗓️ Save the Date: Am 2. November um 17 Uhr findet unser alljährliches Benefizkonzert in der Alten Kirche Fluntern statt mit Musik von Mahler, Brahms und vielen anderen!

Der Eintritt ist frei, die Kollekte kommt direkt unseren Projekten in Kamerun zugute 🌱🇨🇲

Kommt vorbei, geniesst eine Stunde voller Klänge, die das Herz berühren, und unterstützt gleichzeitig eine gute Sache! 🌍✨

🍻 Das anang&ilema Beer-Pong Turnier war ein voller Erfolg! Gemeinsam konnten wir über 500 CHF sammeln und dabei einen richtig spassigen Nachmittag erleben. Ein grosses Dankeschön an alle, die dabei waren! 💛🙌

📅 Was kommt als Nächstes? 2. November: Benefizkonzert in der Kirche Fluntern 14. Dezember: Zürcher Silvesterlauf in der Kategorie Run-for-Fun mit 🏃‍♀️ Meldet euch gerne bei uns, falls ihr mitlaufen oder Sponsor*in werden möchtet!

📝 Im letzten Monat haben wir den Projektantrag für unser 6. (!) Projektjahr fertiggestellt. Das neue Projekt steht ganz im Zeichen von „Train-the-Trainer“: Im nächsten Jahr möchten wir sicherstellen, dass die Frauen aus unseren bisherigen Projekten ihr Wissen an andere Frauen und die nächste Generation weitergeben können. So wollen wir die Nachhaltigkeit unserer Arbeit weiter stärken.

🇨🇲 In Kamerun steckt Valentine auch mitten in den Vorbereitungen für das neue Projekt. Vera besucht die alte Gruppen und unterstützt sie bei ihren Meetings. Gleichzeitig laufen die Näh-Ausbildungen weiter. 🧵✨
