🏘️ LOCAL COMMUNITY ISSUES: WHOSE RESPONSIBILITY IS IT?
Every day, many of our communities continue to struggle with poor roads, improper waste disposal, unemployment, insecurity, drug abuse among youths, lack of clean water, and limited opportunities for young people.
The painful reality is that while many complain about these problems, very few are willing to become part of the solution.
Community development is not the responsibility of the government alone. Real change begins when citizens become active participants in improving their surroundings.
✔️ Parents must guide their children with values and discipline.
✔️ Youths must avoid violence, drugs, and criminal activities.
✔️ Community leaders must promote transparency and dialogue.
✔️ Citizens must protect public spaces and support local initiatives.
✔️ We all must learn to speak less about blame and more about solutions.
A neglected community affects everyone — rich or poor.
If we truly desire safer neighborhoods, better living conditions, accountability, and opportunities for future generations, then we must promote unity, civic responsibility, and community participation.
🌍 Development does not fall from the sky. It is built collectively through sacrifice, awareness, and action.
👉 Let us stop waiting for change and start becoming the change our communities desperately need.

❤️ RELATIONSHIPS ARE NOT MAINTAINED BY LOVE ALONE
One of the biggest mistakes people make in relationships is believing that love alone is enough to keep two people together.
Love may bring people together… But respect, communication, loyalty, patience, and understanding are what keep relationships alive.
Many relationships today are silently dying, not because there is no love, but because: ❌ Pride replaced communication
❌ Ego replaced understanding
❌ Attention shifted elsewhere
❌ Apologies became difficult
❌ Effort became one-sided
A healthy relationship is not about finding a perfect person. It is about two imperfect people choosing each other every day despite challenges.
Sometimes your partner may not need expensive gifts. They may simply need: 👉 Your honesty
👉 Your time
👉 Your support
👉 Your reassurance
👉 Your presence during difficult moments
Real love is tested during hard times, misunderstandings, struggles, and imperfections.
If someone genuinely loves you, value them. In a world full of temporary emotions and fake promises, genuine people are rare.
❤️ Protect relationships that bring peace to your life.

🌟 INSPIRATIONAL STORY: THE BOY WHO REFUSED TO GIVE UP
In a small village, there lived a young man named Daniel. He came from a poor family, walked long distances to school, and often studied under a dim kerosene lamp because there was no electricity at home.
Many people mocked his dreams. Some told him: 👉 “People like you never succeed.” 👉 “Life is already decided for the poor.”
After secondary school, Daniel stayed home for years without a job. Friends abandoned him. Relatives lost hope in him. At some point, even he began doubting himself.
But one thing remained alive inside him — determination.
Instead of surrendering to frustration, he started volunteering in community activities, helping children learn, participating in clean-up campaigns, and educating youths about positive change.
People laughed at him again: “Volunteer work cannot change your life.”
Years later, one organization noticed his dedication and offered him an opportunity for training. That small opportunity opened doors to leadership, partnerships, and community impact.
Today, Daniel inspires hundreds of young people. Not because he was born rich or powerful, but because he refused to let hardship define his future.
📌 LESSON TO THE YOUTHS: Your current situation is not your final destination. Do not allow unemployment, rejection, poverty, or criticism to bury your dreams.
Sometimes life delays your breakthrough not to destroy you, but to prepare you.
Keep learning. Keep building. Keep believing. Keep showing up.
🌍 One day, your story will inspire others too.

When Protectors Become Predators
“When those we look up to for protection turn out to be the very source of fear, disappointment, and injustice, society begins to lose trust not only in leadership, but in hope itself.
Today at Mvan opposite the General Bus Travelling Agency, a disturbing scene unfolded when a policewoman allegedly pushed an Okada rider and his passenger to the ground simply because the rider refused to obey a signal to stop.
Whatever the circumstances may have been, law enforcement officers are expected to enforce order with professionalism, restraint, and respect for human dignity. The use of excessive force, anger, or humiliation against civilians only widens the gap between citizens and those entrusted to protect them.
Discipline is necessary in every society, but discipline without humanity becomes oppression. Public authority should never become a license for brutality or abuse of power. Scenes like these leave many citizens questioning whether protection and intimidation are gradually becoming confused.
Cameroon deserves law enforcement that inspires confidence, not fear; respect, not humiliation. Accountability, emotional control, and respect for human life must remain the foundation of public service.”

EDITORIAL NOTE

A New Voice for Justice, Accountability and Civic Engagement

By Chief(Barrister)Mbong, Editor-in-Chief

Welcome to the inaugural edition of The Civic Voice.

This journal was created from a deep conviction that informed citizens, active communities, and accountable institutions are essential for building a just and democratic Cameroon. At a time when human rights, civic participation, transparency, and the rule of law remain critical national concerns, we believe there is a growing need for a platform that amplifies community voices and promotes constructive dialogue for positive change.

The Civic Voice seeks to educate, inspire, and empower citizens by highlighting key human rights issues, promoting civic engagement, and strengthening accountability at both local and national levels. Through community stories, legal awareness, youth perspectives, and development discussions, this publication aims to bridge the gap between citizens and governance.

Although this January 2026 issue marks the conceptual launch and foundation of the journal, effective and consistent monthly publication will officially begin in May 2026. This strategic transition period allows our editorial team and organization to strengthen internal structures, build partnerships, mobilize resources, improve design and production capacity, and establish a sustainable publication framework capable of ensuring quality, professionalism, and long-term impact.

To maximize accessibility, reach, and sustainability, The Civic Voice will primarily operate as an online journal distributed through digital platforms including email, social media, websites, and community networks. This digital-first approach will enable us to reach wider audiences across Cameroon and beyond while promoting timely civic education and engagement.

However, recognizing the importance of reaching communities with limited internet access, a limited number of physical print copies will also be produced and distributed
strategically to community leaders, schools, civil society organizations, institutions, and selected local stakeholders.
We believe that consistency, credibility, and accessibility are essential for meaningful civic journalism and community advocacy. Therefore, the months leading to May 2026 will serve as an important preparation phase to ensure that every edition delivers accurate information, impactful stories, and valuable civic education to our readers.
As we begin this journey, we invite civil society actors, community leaders, youth, women, development partners, journalists, and citizens from all walks of life to join us in promoting justice, equality, peace, and accountable governance.
Together, we can transform local action into lasting impact.
Thank you for being part of this vision.
