Last week, we proudly inaugurated the Nido Distinguished Alumni Wall at the school’s Admin Building, celebrating the lasting impact and legacy of our alumni.

It was a pleasure to welcome seven of our sixteen Distinguished Alumni honorees, along with fellow alumni, for this special occasion. Following the ceremony and breakfast, we enjoyed a tour of the campus together.

A truly meaningful celebration of our community and its enduring connections.

Last Monday, manager and producer, Dannie Festa ’94, came to Nido to share her more than 20 years experience in the global entertainment industry with High School IB Film students. As founder and CEO of World Builder Entertainment, she leads the management and production of world-class talent, iconic IP, and internationally recognized brands. She is the Executive Producer of DreamWorks Animation/Universal’s hit franchise TROLLS (including Trolls World Tour and Trolls Band Together), and has successfully sold and set up projects with every major studio and streamer, including Amazon, Disney+, Netflix, Universal, Apple, Paramount, Lionsgate, and Sony. In an engaging conversation, she shared her journey from Nido to a global career. She also offered valuable insights on the evolving film industry, including the rise of AI in cinema and the role of women in film. It was a very inspiring conversation for Nido’s aspiring creators, proving that local roots can lead to global premieres.

We regret to announce the passing of Ana Herrera de Lima, mother of Nido alumni Víctor '88, Anita '89, and Ricardo Lima '00.

Anita was a very active member of the Nido community, volunteering her time to support reading and learning needs for several generations of elementary school students in the 1990s. We send our deepest condolences to her family and loved ones.

We are deeply saddened to share the passing of Ricardo Camelio ’78 .

Originally from Punta Arenas, Ricardo attended Nido during his high school years. After high school, Ricardo moved to the United States. While some classmates had not seen him in years, they remember him fondly as a friendly, positive, and warm presence — someone who made others feel welcome and at ease.

Those who knew him well say that Ricardo lived his life with the simple but powerful goal of being a good man: caring, loving, and devoted to his family. In 1995, he married the love of his life, Brenda Surdo, and was a deeply loving husband. Always extroverted, Ricardo never met a stranger — he could strike up a lively conversation with anyone, light up a room with his presence, and captivate others with his stories. His generous spirit and sociable nature touched the lives of countless people.

Ricardo also spent many unforgettable summers in Cape Cod, in Hyannis Port — his mother Beulah’s hometown — creating memories he treasured throughout his life. He found joy in nature and in the company of those he loved.

He leaves behind his beloved wife, Brenda, and his cherished cats. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved him.

On behalf of the Nido Alumni Association, we extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and the Class of 1978.

Rest in peace, Ricardo.

This week, Isabella and Ana Leiva, Nido students from the Class of ’27, had the privilege of meeting archaeologist Dr. José Berenguer ’63, recipient of the 2024 NAA Distinguished Alumni Award.

Dr. Berenguer shared insights from his remarkable 40-year career as Chief Curator of the Museo de Arte Precolombino in Santiago, his work as Emeritus Curator at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and his many archaeological projects across northern Chile.

Hearing about the passion and perseverance that have guided his work for decades was truly inspiring. The conversation encouraged Isabella and Ana to reflect on their own academic interests and future paths, reminding them of the value of pursuing a career driven by curiosity, commitment, and genuine passion.

It is with both deep sadness and profound gratitude that the Nido Alumni Association marks the passing of Verónica Cereceda Bianchi, who lived a long and extraordinary life and passed away at the age of 98 in Sucre, Bolivia. Veronica attended Nido de Águilas at its original Peñalolén campus from 1940 to 1942 during her high school years. She later wrote of her time at Nido as the beginning of a new life — one shaped by a deep connection to nature, long walks in the foothills, independent study, and moments of reflection that left a lasting imprint on her intellectual and spiritual path.

Living and working in Bolivia for much of her life, Veronica dedicated herself to the study, preservation, and celebration of Andean Indigenous cultures. She co-founded Antropólogos del Sur Andino (ASUR) and was especially recognized for her work on traditional Andean textiles, which she understood as complex expressions of memory, identity, and knowledge. She also played an important role in bringing international recognition to the Pujllay and Ayarichi festivals as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage.

We honor Veronica’s life with deep appreciation for her contributions and the generosity of spirit with which she shared her knowledge. Her work bridged cultures, generations, and ways of knowing, leaving a legacy that continues to inspire. Our heartfelt condolences go out to her family, colleagues, and the many communities whose lives she enriched.
