JDPH join the global community in commemorating World Water Day 2026, under the theme “Water and Gender” and the campaign message, “Where water flows, equality grows.”

This theme underscores the importance of water and draws attention to the vital, though often underappreciated, role that women and girls play in water management. It also highlights the unequal burden they face in situations of water scarcity.

This year’s observance emphasizes that safe water and sanitation are fundamental human rights and essential drivers of gender equality. The campaign further explains that although the global water crisis affects everyone, its impact is not experienced equally. In communities where access to safe drinking water and sanitation is lacking, inequality is intensified, with women and girls suffering the greatest consequences.

World Water Day 2026 calls for women and girls to be placed at the centre of water solutions. It advocates for a transformative, rights-based response to the water crisis one that fully recognizes and values the voices, leadership, and agency of women and girls.
