Dolphin Watch Alliance

Dolphin Watch Alliance supports projects that serve the research and
protection of dolphins worldwide.

Today, all around the world, dolphins are endangered, be it through
fishing, unsustainable tourism, underwater noise or pollution. Despite our fascination for these animals, we humans are continually harming the
dolphin population, out of greed for profit or ignorance. Research, protection and, above all, an understanding of these wonderful
creatures is urgently needed. The projects we support are committed to
this. If you can, please support us by donating here: https://www.dolphinwatchalliance.org/index.php/en/

Last week, our scientific advisor Marc Frei gave a presentation on Turtle, the boat of Orca Dive Club, about the biology and behaviour of the Indo-Pacific bottlenose dolphins and the code of conduct in the Red Sea. On the way to the dive site, three dolphin groups at three different reefs were observed from the boat. Even though the dolphins did not appear at the dive site, the divers enjoyed two dives at beautiful reefs. Thanks a lot to Orca Dive Club for this opportunity and to the crew and guests always respecting the code of conduct for dolphin approaches.

A glimpse into life beneath the surface 🐬🌊

One of the most fascinating parts of studying dolphins is watching the bonds they form. Male dolphins can build long-term alliances, working together and maintaining relationships that can last for years, even a lifetime!

Every encounter adds another piece to the puzzle, helping us better understand their complex social lives in the wild.

Meet the Team 🐬

In this episode, we’re introducing the talented Robyn, our photographer and videographer. Robyn plays a huge role in bringing the work of Dolphin Watch Alliance to life through powerful visuals, capturing the moments, stories, and beauty of the dolphins and marine environment we work so hard to protect.

From documenting fieldwork at sea to capturing clear images of dorsal fins for photo identification, Robyn’s work is a crucial part of our research process. These photographs help us identify individual dolphins, track sightings over time, and better understand their social lives, movements, and population dynamics. Alongside this, her videos and imagery help us share the importance of marine conservation and connect more people to the work happening in the Red Sea.

Behind every powerful image is an important piece of science, and Robyn helps make both possible.💙🌊

Passive interaction is the only true encounter. 🌊🐬

Dolphins choose the moment too. They come close when they feel safe, curious, and ready; not when they’re chased.

Never pursue them with a boat. Never swim after them. Respect their space and follow the code of conduct for responsible dolphin interactions. 🙏

The most meaningful connection happens through trust, respect, and stillness.

Up close and personal 🐬

Dolphins are naturally curious animals but every individual is different, some are shy and not interested in human encounters at all. This male Indo-Pacific bottlenose dolphin, Sefa, chose to come incredibly close to us in the water. We’ve known him since 2009, when he was still swimming beside his mother Somaya.

Moments like this are always on their terms 💙

A gentle reminder: please never touch or chase dolphins. Keep your arms by your side while swimming and let them choose the interaction, if they’re curious, they’ll come to you.

If you’d like to support Sefa and contribute to his long-term monitoring and protection, you can support through the link in our bio 💙🐬

Meet the Team 🐬

In this episode, we’re introducing .v , one of our Scientific Advisors at Dolphin Watch Alliance. Gemma plays an important role in supporting our research, helping guide the scientific work that strengthens our understanding of dolphin behavior, ecology, and conservation.

Through her expertise and guidance, she helps ensure our research contributes to meaningful conservation efforts and supports the protection of marine life in the Red Sea.

Her knowledge and dedication help shape the science behind our mission while inspiring a deeper connection to the incredible world of dolphins. 💙🌊
