A Memorable Book Launch at Hotel Zürichberg (Zurich, Switzerland)

On May 28, 2026, the romantic Art Nouveau hall of Hotel Zürichberg provided the setting for the launch of the expanded edition of “Daughter from a Good Family” (Tochter aus besserem Hause), the biography of Daniela Ambrosoli written by Markus Maeder.

The evening became an outstanding cultural event, bringing together numerous guests for inspiring encounters, engaging conversations, and many unforgettable moments.
A special musical highlight was provided by cellist Mattia Zappa, a former scholarship recipient of the Pierino Ambrosoli Foundation and today an internationally acclaimed musician. His remarkable performance added a unique atmosphere to the event.

Selected passages from the new edition were read by actor Jarreth Merz, who has enjoyed a successful career in both Europe and the United States. Also taking part were author Markus Maeder and Anton Ladner, journalist and Managing Director of MEDIEN AG, who guided Daniela Ambrosoli through a lively interview, offering the audience fascinating insights into her life and work.

A heartfelt thank you goes to all participants and guests whose presence made this evening so special. The event will remain a cherished memory for a long time to come.
Note: Anyone wishing to obtain a signed copy of the book is welcome to contact us by telephone at +41 44 253 15 13 or by email at [email protected].

We are delighted to share exciting news from our scholarship holder Mattia Valtancoli ✨

After several auditions between January and March 2026, Mattia has signed a contract with Alberta Ballet based in Canada, for the 2026/2027 season.
Starting on August 17, 2026, Mattia will join Alberta Ballet as an apprentice dancer until May 25, 2027 — an important new chapter in his artistic journey.
While this opportunity brings great excitement, it also comes with the emotions and challenges of moving far away from home and beginning a new life in Canada.
We are incredibly proud of Mattia’s dedication, hard work, and perseverance throughout the past months, and we wish him every success for this wonderful new adventure.
Congratulations, dear Mattia — we look forward to following your journey!

This week we would like to present Mrs. Mavis Staines a visionary leader in Ballet Education.
Mavis Staines is a Canadian ballet dancer, teacher and visionary leader who has shaped the landscape of classical dance both in Canada and internationally. Born in Quebec, she trained at Canada’s National Ballet School (NBS) and went on to perform as a first soloist with the National Ballet of Canada and the Dutch National Ballet before an injury brought her performance career to an early close. Staines returned to NBS to pursue teacher training and soon joined its artistic faculty. In 1989 she became Artistic Director of Canadas National Ballet School — a role she held for 35 years until her retirement in 2024. Under her leadership, the institution became a global leader in ballet education by championing holistic dancer development, innovative pedagogy, community engagement and inclusivity. She introduced initiatives such as Assemblée Internationale, which brings together students and teachers from around the world to collaborate and share knowledge. A long-standing collaboration connects the Pierino Ambrosoli Foundation and Canadas National Ballet School, united by a shared commitment to excellence in dance education and artistic development.

Throughout her career, Staines has received numerous honours, including being named a Member of the Order of Canada, receiving the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal, and the Governor General’s Performing Arts Award for Lifetime Artistic Achievement. Her influence extends beyond the studio, as she continues to advocate for equity and accessibility in the art of dance as a global ambassador for NBS.
