⚽ A record 48 nations are competing in the 2026 FIFA World Cup. These are the ones that have achieved gender equality:

No country in the world has achieved gender equality yet. Not a single one. According to the Global Gender Gap Report 2025, at the current pace, it will take 123 more years.

It's time we finally change the game for girls💙

For girls, the field is always uphill. 🏃‍♀️‍➡️ ‍↗️

840 million women and girls — nearly 1 in 3 — have experienced physical or sexualised violence in their lifetime.

At Plan International, we work alongside girls and communities to change the rules through empowerment, access to services and knowledge, safe spaces, and advocacy, so that one day, every girl plays on an equal field.

📢 Historic day for girls in Colombia! 🇨🇴

Colombia’s Congress has approved the “Girls without Female Ge***al Mutilation” bill. Now it’s up to the President to sign - and make Colombia the first in the Americas with reported cases to ban FGM.

Plan International welcomes the approval of this bill as a landmark step for girls’ rights in Colombia.

FGM is a severe form of gender-based violence that violates girls’ rights to health, bodily integrity, and dignity. Globally, 230 million* girls and women have undergone the practice.

⚽ For millions of girls around the world, the game starts before they even reach the pitch - and the odds are already stacked against them.

Rules they didn’t write limit their opportunities, silence their voices, and take away their right to choose their own path.

But this game can change. It’s time to question the rules, speak up, and take action.💙

🩸 Period-shame is rooted in gender inequality.

Many beliefs about periods come from discriminatory ideas about the role and value of girls in society. It is critical that education about periods starts early and includes all genders, to tackle taboos and stigma, and promote gender equality.

By improving menstrual health and tackling period-shame, we can improve girls’ attendance and performance at school; break down taboos and misconceptions around menstruation; raise girls’ self-esteem and enable them to fully participate in all aspects of society 💙

💡A little extra 6th fact (and probably the most important one):

Every body is different.

When you get your first period and when it stops, for how long the bleeding lasts, how much blood you lose, how long it takes until you get the next period, which products you prefer, how PMS is experienced, how much pain or other symptoms you have, if you do or don’t menstruate – every single body is different, and that’s perfectly okay. Don’t let anyone tell you how your body is supposed to work.

ℹ️ Still: It is important to seek medical advice if you have questions about your period or notice something unusual.
