💜 World Mental Health Day | 10 October
Behind every surgeon is a human being. A woman who carries responsibilities, faces challenges, makes difficult decisions, and sometimes struggles silently while continuing to care for others.
In surgery, we often talk about resilience, dedication and excellence. But today, we also want to make space for something equally important: our mental health. The pressure to perform, long working hours, work–life balance, motherhood, self-doubt, exhaustion and the feeling that we always need to prove ourselves can take a toll. And too often, we feel that we have to manage everything on our own.
At Women in Surgery Switzerland, we want you to know that you are not alone. 💜 We are building a community where every woman in surgery can feel safe to speak openly about her feelings, share her thoughts, voice her concerns and talk about the challenges she faces — without fear of judgement.
A community where we listen to one another, learn from each other’s experiences, explore solutions together and offer support when it is needed most. Because sometimes, knowing that someone understands can make all the difference.
Our goal is to help create a surgical culture where asking for help is seen as strength, where vulnerability is met with compassion, and where no woman feels she has to choose between being a good surgeon, being a mother, and taking care of herself.
Today is a reminder that our wellbeing matters, our voices matter, and we matter beyond the operating theatre.
Let’s keep checking in on one another, creating space for honest conversations, and building a profession where women can thrive — not just professionally, but personally, too.
💜 You are not alone. We are here to listen, connect, support and empower one another.
