Last week, Wikimedia CH attended the ICT4S conference at the Berner Fachhochschule | Haute école spécialisée bernoise to bridge the gap between civil society and academia.

Scientists play a pivotal role in shaping a more equitable trajectory of progress, particularly with regard to ICT4 sustainability. However, their findings often fail to reach civil society.

The conference provided the ideal platform to discuss with scientists about Wikipedia’s potential of making relevant knowledge based on scientific research accessible to a global audience.

Wikimedia CH has published its annual report for 2025. Against the backdrop of rapid technological change, and in anticipation of the 25th anniversary of Wikipedia and the 20h anniversary of Wikimedia CH in 2026, we have solidified our foundations and prepared for the future.

🗂️ Wikimedia CH is celebrating International Archives Week 2026!

This global initiative, organised by the International Council on Archives, is now in its sixth edition and runs from 8–12 June. Here is how to take part:

🖼️ Visit the exhibition "Artistic Intelligence" at Gallery Glaab in Bern from 6–27 June. It explores how archives, platforms and artistic practices can be reimagined in the digital age.

🎙️ Attend the online panel discussion on "Archives for Justice" on June 15 at 18:00 CEST. The speakers will explore the vital role archives play in justice and accountability.

✏️ Contribute to open knowledge by helping us strengthen Swiss archives’ presence on Wikipedia, Wikimedia Commons and Wikidata. Check out the map to see where contributions are needed.

How can Wikimedia help shape the future of AI — not only as a source of data, but as a model for human-governed knowledge?

On 29 May, Wikimedia CH will participate in the AI-BRIDGES Symposium at the School of Advanced Study, University of London alongside Wikimedia Deutschland, Wikimedia UK, Wikimedia Brasil, and pleias.

The symposium will explore how AI systems interact with open knowledge infrastructures such as Wikipedia and Wikidata. It will also consider how the Wikimedia Movement can contribute to more transparent, accountable, and public-interest AI.

For Wikimedia CH, this discussion builds on the work begun at the Collective Intelligence vs. Artificial Intelligence roundtable in Lausanne, exploring ways to protect and strengthen Wikimedia as a public knowledge commons in an era where AI increasingly mediates access to information.

Ilario Valdelli, Innovation Programme Lead at Wikimedia CH, will be joining the opening session.

The international ICT4S (ICT for Sustainability) conference will take place from 8 to 12 June at the Bern University of Applied Sciences (BFH).

Wikimedia CH is supporting the conference and will be actively involved in various activities. ICT4S provides a significant opportunity to strengthen the connections between the Wikimedia projects and the scientific community.�
