🤖 How can digital health and artificial intelligence help transform the management of rhinitis and asthma?
📱 The ARIA-EAACI 2025 strategy moves beyond traditional guideline development towards a person-centred, digitally enabled and AI-assisted model of care for rhinitis and asthma multimorbidity.
🔗 The strategy aims to strengthen collaboration between ARIA and EAACI, develop the ARIA 2024–2025 guidelines, implement the new ARIA-MeDALL classification of multimorbid airway diseases and embed MASK-air within a registry for severe allergic diseases.
🎯 The ultimate goal: to transform care for rhinitis and asthma multimorbidity while supporting shared decision-making and the development of novel guidelines and policies in a cost-effective manner.

🌍 What can the history of allergology teach us about today’s challenges in climate change and respiratory health?

Prof. Gennaro D’Amato was among the pioneers investigating the links between pollen, air pollution, climate change and respiratory allergic disease.

His contributions ranged from early pollen monitoring and European pollen calendars to research on thunderstorm asthma and the effects of extreme weather on asthma. His work helped bring environmental influences on allergy and respiratory health to increasing scientific and clinical attention.

For Junior Members, his career is a reminder of how curiosity, persistence and looking beyond established research questions can help shape an entire field.

EAACI Allergy School 2026 in Bologna brought together junior members for three days of learning and discussion around mastocytosis and insect venom hypersensitivity.
Representing the EAACI Junior Members, Polina Pyatilova and Deniz Gürel took part in lectures, case-based discussions and practical workshops covering diagnostics, emergency medication, venom immunotherapy and mast-cell disorders.

As Polina highlighted in her reflection, the interactive format offered plenty of opportunities to discuss clinical approaches, exchange experiences and connect with both faculty and peers.
She also presented data from the MASTHAVE® App on the burden experienced by people with mastocytosis.

🔍 What are the effects of IL-33 on eosinophils?

This study investigated the function of IL-33 on eosinophils using muli-omics analyses.

• IL-33, in conjunction with oxLDL and the complement cascade, induces inflammatory changes in eosinophils.
• IL-33 induces inflammatory gene signatures in eosinophils, characterised by the upregulation of cell surface markers, inflammatory mediators and regulatory factors.
• IL-33 triggers ETosis via NADPH oxidase, MAPK and PI3K pathways.

Dear Juniors! 🚨

EAACI has joined the ACT for Anaphylaxis Alliance, launched at the European Parliament in Brussels to strengthen anaphylaxis preparedness across Europe.
Professor Vito Sabato represented EAACI and endorsed the Alliance’s Call to Action on behalf of the Academy.

The initiative calls for clearer emergency protocols, trained responders and timely access to emergency adrenaline in schools, workplaces, transport hubs and other public settings. It also advocates for legal clarity, sustainable funding, improved data and stronger accountability.
These priorities closely reflect EAACI’s Vision Zero ambition: zero preventable deaths, zero inequalities in care and zero gaps in education and communication.
Anaphylaxis is unpredictable. Europe’s preparedness should not be.

💊 Can once-daily oral prophylaxis effectively reduce HAE attacks in real-world practice?

🌍 The Berolife study—the first and largest European real-world observational study of berotralstat to date—included 80 patients with hereditary angioedema (HAE).

📉 Monthly HAE attack rates decreased significantly from 1.25 at baseline to 0.62 after 6 months of treatment (p = 0.001). A significant reduction was also observed at 12 months.

➡️ Berotralstat was generally well tolerated, with no treatment-related serious adverse events reported.
