Great to see independent labels putting their collective weight behind a new vision for streaming! !K7, Because, City Slang, Domino, Everlasting, Exceleration, Hopeless, Ninja Tune, Partisan, Playground, Secret City, Secretly Group and Sub Pop have backed Cantilever, a curated streaming service built around independent music and fairer, user-centric payments for artists. The £250,000 pre-seed investment was coordinated through ORCA (Organization for Recorded Culture and Arts) and brings together labels from WIN's global network of associations.

The independent sector continues to demonstrate its capacity to invest in and build the ecosystem it believes in. Cantilever offers a model centered on curation and maximizing revenues for artists and labels. A powerful signal that independents are shaping the future of music streaming alongside the artists and fans they serve.

Great news for the global independent sector! Curve Royalty Systems is preserving its independence through a new partnership with Merlin and Jamen Capital. The sale is part of the conditions set by the European Commission to approve Universal's acquisition of Downtown, Curve's previous owner.

Access to independently owned, neutral infrastructure is essential for the independent sector at a time of significant consolidation across the broader music landscape all over the world. Independent services are essential for effective market access for all, a more transparent ecosystem and ultimately fostering cultural diversity and consumer choice.

Policy strategist Dan Fowler’s report “Powering an Independent and Culturally Diverse European Music Ecosystem” is now available in 6 languages.

WIN is making the Executive Summary of this key IMPALA resource accessible in Spanish, French, Portuguese, Japanese, and Korean so that trade associations and their members worldwide can use it to advocate for targeted regulation and sector collaboration.

The report makes the case for independence as an economic asset and cultural diversity as a counterweight to excessive market concentration. Although based on a European assessment, the issues the report tackles, from financing independent companies and independently owned infrastructure to fair market access and digital regulation, resonate globally.

The translations are part of WIN and Impala - Independent Music Companies Association’s broader collaboration, launched in 2025 under IMPALA’s programme of work co-funded by the EU, to strengthen cross-border cooperation between the global and European independent music sectors.
