👉️ Universidad del Azuay and IABSE Ecuador organised the Technical Seminar on Multi-Hazard Risk

On 24 and 25 September 2026, Universidad del Azuay and IABSE Ecuador, in collaboration with Universidad San Francisco de Quito, organised a technical seminar in Cuenca addressing the risks associated with multiple natural hazards and their implications for infrastructure resilience and disaster risk reduction.

🏗️ Field trip to the construction of a steel bridge

On 18 September 2026, the Ecuadorian NG organised a field trip with students from Universidad San Francisco de Quito to a construction site for a steel bridge in Quito; this structure will support the pipelines of a large water-supply infrastructure project in Quito.

🚨 A group of experts departed on 29 August 2026 from Medellin for Pereira to support the Colombian National Group after the devastating earthquake, organised by the Municipality of Medellin and coordinated by DAGRD, the Administrative Department for Risk and Disaster Management of Medellin City. The group included 6 engineers from Mexico, led by IABSE member Prof. José Manuel Jara.

Objective and Scope:

The IABSE Congress Milan 2027 will provide an international forum for the exchange of knowledge and experience among researchers, practitioners, infrastructure owners and policymakers involved in structural and bridge engineering. IABSE Incheon Congress 2026 - Young Engineers Programme
Congratulations to winners and participants!

The Young Engineers activities started with the Pecha Kucha session, which was a highly engaging session featuring all eligible young engineers (21 presenters) who indicated their interest during Congress registration. Each presenter delivered a rapid-fire, 2-minute pitch of their research using exactly three slides. To maintain an energetic pace, each slide advanced automatically after 40 seconds. The best Pecha Kucha presentation was selected through an on-site online voting system and was recognised with the Best Pecha Kucha Presentation Award, which was presented during the Closing Ceremony of the Congress. Following the intense and exciting Pecha Kucha presentations, participants were invited to relax and connect over a casual networking dinner featuring Chi-maek (a classic Korean pairing of crispy fried chicken and b**r) and a dinner at a nearby pub, "Terrason" which offered a comfortable setting for attendees to continue conversations, share insights, and build lasting connections with fellow young engineers. At the Closing Ceremony, the Best Young Engineers Prize was given to the most notable presentation by a young engineer at the Congress.

The Best Pecha Kucha Presentation Award was given to Henrik Becks, from RWTH Aachen University, Germany, and to Jomari Tan, from De La Salle University, the Philippines. The Best Young Engineers Paper Award was awarded to Soomin Kim, from Seoul National University, Republic of Korea; and to Rongxiu Chen, from Kyoto University, Japan.

IABSE e-Learning Board

eLearning Board, chaired by Maria Pina Limongelli, conducted a meeting with the Board members on 22 September 2026. In this meeting, the Board discussed the webinar series on Eminent Engineers and presented several proposals. The board also discussed actions related to the presentation of IABSE's content on the e-learning webpage and the inclusion of the section ‘New Releases’, which will present the most recent content. The different work subgroups also shared their ongoing activities.
