Are you an Indigenous youth advocating for Indigenous rights or environmental justice in your community?
Incomindios is excited to offer a unique opportunity for Indigenous youth to participate in the Expert Mechanism on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (EMRIP) at the United Nations in Geneva.
The Incomindios Indigenous Youth Scholarship supports emerging Indigenous leaders in gaining first-hand experience in international Indigenous rights advocacy. The program is organized and accompanied by Incomindios and aims to strengthen the participation of Indigenous youth in global decision-making spaces.
Through participation in EMRIP, selected scholars will have the opportunity to engage with Indigenous representatives, experts, and UN mechanisms working to advance the rights of Indigenous Peoples worldwide. Scholars will attend EMRIP sessions in Geneva and connect with Indigenous delegates from different regions, while bringing their experiences and knowledge back to their communities.
This program is particularly intended for Indigenous youth who have little or no prior experience with United Nations processes, in order to open access to international advocacy spaces and strengthen new voices.
Eligibility criteria
To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must:
Identify as Indigenous and come from North, Central or South America or the Caribbean
Be between 18 and 30 years old
Demonstrate engagement in Indigenous rights, community leadership, or environmental justice
Show a proven record of community involvement or activism
Applicants who already have extensive experience with UN mechanisms are encouraged to seek support through the Incomindios UN Fund for Indigenous Peoples, which supports Indigenous delegates with previous UN experience.
Required documents
To complete the application, applicants must submit:
A Curriculum Vitae (CV)
Two reference letters from community leaders, Elders, mentors, or organizations familiar with the applicant’s work
A draft statement outlining the issue the applicant wishes to raise at EMRIP
A short essay explaining your motivation to participate in EMRIP and how your participation will benefit your community
Supporting documents demonstrating community engagement (such as articles, links, certificates, or awards) may also be uploaded.

The deadline for applications is 12 April 2026.
Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.
