📢 Official Announcement: Sara Aduse Foundation Signs MoU with Harari Education Bureau***

We are proud to announce that the Sara Aduse Foundation has officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Harari Regional Education Bureau. The agreement was formalized in attends by Mr. Arsenal Abdi , Vice Head of the Harari Regional Education Bureau, and our Founder & CEO, Sara Aduse. This partnership marks a major milestone in our shared mission to protect girls from Female Ge***al Mutilation (FGM) and expand access to quality education across the Harari region.

Through this MoU, our Foundation will work side‑by‑side with the Education Bureau to implement community‑based awareness campaigns, school retention programs, and safe learning initiatives. Our ongoing “Nina House” dialogue center will serve as a key platform for engaging families and educators, while the Bureau’s reach will help us integrate anti‑FGM messaging into the regional schools. Together, we aim to create a protective environment where every girl can learn and grow without fear of harmful traditional practices.

Speaking at the signing, Mr. Arsenal Abdi praised the Foundation’s grassroots approach and reaffirmed the Bureau’s commitment to child protection. Sara Aduse added, “This MoU is not just a document – it is a promise to the girls that their future matters.” The partnership will run for an initial a year, with regular joint reviews to track progress. We look forward to updating you on the impact we will achieve together.

Honored to speak at the Kibir Film Festival on International Women’s Day.

Thank you to the Embassy of Switzerland in Addis Ababa and United Nations Population Fund Ethiopia for creating this important platform to call for the urgent end of FGM and violence against women and girls.

I am also deeply inspired by Meaza Ashenafi, whose courage and lifelong dedication to women’s rights continue to inspire so many of us.

Together, we can turn awareness into action.

Last Friday, something bigger than a film happened.

On the International Day of Zero Tolerance for FGM, a full cinema came together to witness the story of Do You Remember Me?.

My journey.
From silence to voice.
From survivor to advocate.

I am deeply thankful to the Embassy of Switzerland in Ethiopia for the partnership and the commitment to stand up for girls and women.

My gratitude also goes to H.E. Mekdes Daba and Ambassador Riccarda Chanda for their powerful words, to moderator Hanna Lemma, and to the panelists Lidya Almaw, Ahmed Haithar Somo, and Senaite Tassew for their insight and dedication.

Change happens when we speak.
Change happens when institutions stand together.
Change happens when survivors lead.

And we are just getting started.

Today marked the final day of the 16 Days of Activism.
To honor this important day, we organized an FGM Walk together with the Women and Children Affairs Bureau and we raised our voices against violence towards women and young girls.

We walked to say:
No more silence.
No more fear.
No more FGM.
No more child marriage.
No more r**e.
No more harm in the name of culture.

Today, we stood together as a community.
I am incredibly proud of what we achieved.
Our walk was more than a march.
It was a message.
It was a declaration.
It was a promise.

A promise that we will continue fighting for the safety, dignity and freedom of every girl and every woman in Harar and far beyond.

Harar heard us today.
And tomorrow, we keep going. 💜✨

Staying in Addis until tomorrow. Counting the hours until I’m back in Harar. Can’t wait. ✨
