The Limmat Foundation was founded on the 13th of March 1972. At the same time, it supports its local partners in providing quality knowledge and skills.

The Limmat Foundation pursues the vision of a world in which all people receive training that empowers them to shape their communities responsibly and for the good of all. With its well-established Project Center, the Limmat Foundation offers donors (private individuals, companies as well as foundations) tailored solutions for the implementation of their philanthropic ideas. Thanks to its many yea

rs of experience, the Limmat Foundation has built up a worldwide network of professional and competent local partners, who realize the donors' projects according to local possibilities. Through its sustainable and future-oriented commitment, the Limmat Foundation thus forms a stable bridge between donors and beneficiaries. Since the beginning in 1972, the Limmat Foundation has supported more than 1000 projects in 81 countries with donations of more than 300 million CHF in order to improve the material as well as immaterial living conditions of its beneficiaries on an individual and social level. Currently, it counts 16 sub-foundations and more than 30 earmarked funds. The Limmat Foundation has no political or religious affiliation. Rather it puts the Christian values such as solidarity, justice, peace, human dignity and family at the center of its work. Its projects are open to all people, regardless of their social origin, ethnic group or religion.

Die Limmat Stiftung wurde am 13. März 1972 gegründet und ist die älteste Dachstiftung der Schweiz mit Sitz in Zürich. Den Schwerpunkt ihrer weltweiten Tätigkeit legt sie auf Sozial- und Bildungsprojekte, wobei vor allem die Ausbildung von Ausbildnern sowie die Förderung von Frauen und Kindern im Fokus steht. Die Vision der Limmat Stiftung ist einer Welt, in der alle Menschen Bildung erhalten, sodass sie ihre Gemeinschaften verantwortungsvoll und zum Wohle aller gestalten. Mit ihrem etablierten professionellen Projektzentrum bietet die Limmat Stiftung Donatoren (Privatpersonen, Unternehmen sowie Stiftungen) massgeschneiderte Lösungen für die erfolgreiche Umsetzung ihrer philanthropischen Ideen. Gleichzeitig unterstützt sie ihre Lokalpartner mit qualitativem Wissen und hochwertigen Fähigkeiten. Dank ihrer langjährigen Erfahrung hat sie sich ein weltweites Netzwerk an fachlich kompetenten Lokalpartnern aufgebaut, welche die Vorhaben der Donatoren den Verhältnissen und Möglichkeiten vor Ort entsprechend realisieren. Durch ihren zukunftsorientierten sowie nachhaltigen Einsatz bildet die Limmat Stiftung somit eine stabile Brücke zwischen Donatoren und Begünstigten. Seit ihrer Gründung hat sie über 1000 Projekte in 81 Ländern mit mehr als 300 Millionen CHF unterstützt, um die materiellen sowie immateriellen Lebensbedingungen der Begünstigten auf individueller und gesellschaftlicher Ebene langfristig zu verbessern. Gegenwärtig zählt die Limmat Stiftung 16 Zustiftungen und mehr als 30 zweckgebundene Fonds. Die Limmat Stiftung ist politisch und konfessionell ungebunden. Vielmehr stellt sie die christlichen Werte wie Solidarität, Gerechtigkeit, Friede, Menschenwürde und Familie in den Mittelpunkt ihrer Arbeit. Ihre Projekte sind für alle Menschen offen, unabhängig von ihrer Sozialherkunft, Volksgruppe oder Religion.

Why do you like working at the Limmat Foundation?
What draws me to the Limmat Foundation is its deep commitment to education and the development of people. Supporting others in their growth has shaped my path for many years – from my time as a teacher to working in school leadership, and now in organizational development. Meaningful work that has a positive impact on people’s lives is what motivates me most. The vision of Toni Zweifel resonates strongly with me, especially the focus on women’s education and the lasting difference it can make for entire communities. In my current role, it is very rewarding to contribute to the ongoing development of the Foundation as well as to help shape it together with the team as a strong and future-oriented organization.

Other commitments:
As a mother of two children, I am strongly committed to my family alongside my professional responsibilities. This perspective shapes how I think about education, opportunity and the next generation.

Hobbies:
In my free time, I enjoy art and literature, following international developments, hiking and spending time in nature. I also love playing the piano, which helps me to relax and stay creative.

🏌‍♀ Esmeralda Charity Cup 2026 – Changing lives through golf 🏌

For more than 30 years, the Limmat Foundation has brought together golf enthusiasts, sponsors, and supporters through the Esmeralda Charity Cup – a tradition that combines sport with meaningful social impact.

In the golf season 2026, the tournament will once again support two transformative education projects in Colombia:

Saberes Conecta empowers early childhood caregivers and nursery teachers through professional training programmes, strengthening educational opportunities for toddlers from disadvantaged backgrounds across Colombia.

Iwoka Transfer assists vulnerable children in Cartagena de Indias through a mentoring programme where trained youth help primary school pupils with learning, personal challenges, and social inclusion.

🌻 Meet the Foundation Board: Alberto Ribera 🌻

This month, the Limmat Foundation would like to introduce you to its Foundation Board member Alberto Ribera.

In the Foundation Board since: 2017

Profession and Expertise: Medical Doctor and PhD Economics. Until 2023 Professor of Leadership at the IESE Business School in Barcelona. In previous positions, responsible for projects in Africa, Southeast Asia and the Middle East with the European Commission as well as other multilateral organisations.

💫 Creating new opportunities through practical education 💫

What begins with knowledge can transform entire communities. In Kilifi (Kenya), a project supported by the Limmat Foundation is empowering women, girls, and children through hands-on training as well as essential life skills, creating lasting change.

Through the program "Fanikisha", around 160 women received training in entrepreneurship, budgeting, cooking, and nutrition. As a result, several participants launched small businesses or secured employment in the local service sector. At the same time, the program "Tekeleza" enabled a similar number of girls to develop leadership and business skills, with many taking their first steps into entrepreneurship. The program "Smartika Mimi" reached almost 240 pupils, providing education on hygiene, nutrition, and personal responsibility. Many of these children have already improved their daily habits and are actively promoting cleanliness within their schools as well as families.

By investing in practical education, the Limmat Foundation is helping communities build sustainable futures through local empowerment. ⭐️

Profession and Expertise: Founder of the European Institute for Cooperation and Development (IECD), France: implements projects in the areas of education, entrepreneurship and access to employment through vocational training together with local partners.

Through its commitment to promoting education worldwide, especially for children, the Limmat Foundation believes that every child who reads discovers new opportunities, gains confidence, and builds a brighter future.

✨ Digital skills - real impact ✨

Through a project in Brazil, supported by the Limmat Foundation, digital competencies are being integrated into subjects like history and geography in public schools – opening up entirely new ways of learning. The initiative is implemented in collaboration with the Transformative Learning Technologies Lab (Teachers College, Columbia University).

By training teachers to embed computational thinking into their everyday lessons, the project enables students to build essential digital skills – without adding new subjects to the curriculum.

In 2025, the program reached more than 600 students across 8 cities and supported 16 teachers in developing innovative, interdisciplinary teaching approaches. This is a growing initiative and a powerful step toward rethinking education.

🍀 Building futures through education in Mexico 🍀

Through Centro Comunitario Santa Fe (Centro Comunitario Santa Fe, A.C. (Oficial)) in Mexico, the Limmat Foundation supports a project that opens doors to education by creating safe, community-based learning spaces for children, youth, and adults. Thanks to different programmes ranging from pre-school to scholarships, mentoring, and online classes, educational gaps can be reduced and opportunities are created.

In 2025, the project reached 894 beneficiaries, with 70% successfully completing their courses. Key milestones included strengthening academic tutoring, delivering workshops in AI, employability, personal finance, and celebrating inspiring success stories of students completing university, and becoming a role model in her community.

Another major achievement was the start of the reconstruction of the San Mateo center, ensuring sustainable impact and better learning conditions for years to come. Despite some challenges, the project continues to grow through strong partnerships, expanded scholarships, and improved digital tools – empowering communities to achieve their goals.

The Limmat Foundation is deeply grateful for the creativity and courage shown by the children in its supported projects. Their voices, stories, as well as talents continue to inspire the Foundation’s commitment to creating opportunities and safe spaces where every child can thrive.
