Glocal Roots

Glocal Roots We develop projects that promote displaced people's autonomy. Countries or states may have fairly distinct borders at a given time, humans don’t. We are glocal!

Glocal Roots is a not-for profit association building glocal networks that promote and enable the transition for displaced people away from dependency towards increased autonomy, resilience, and development. We build projects with the aim to support displaced people to live a self-reliant and autonomous life wherever they are now. Our name

Today so many of us come from all over the world, and liv

e in numerous locations during our lifetimes, some of us out of choice; others because we have been displaced and might never make it home again, might never really have a home again. If we limit people to only being from the place they were born, we are denying them their true identities. Our identity is multi -layered. DEUTSCH

We are happy to share our collaboration with Santa Rosa Club.

Starting from the materials they provided, we transformed them into merchandise, handmade in our tailor spaces in Greece and Türkiye by women rebuilding their lives through work.

From production to the final details, every piece reflects a slower and more conscious approach to merchandise.

The Victoria Community Centre | Athens

Today marks World Refugee Day.

In a moment when public debate feels increasingly polarised, choosing humanity is an act of intention. It means recognising each person’s dignity, celebrating one another, and holding space for compassion in a world that often amplifies the opposite.

In Athens, we came together to celebrate. The organisations of the Victoria Community Centre hosted an evening of music, dance, food, creativity, and community — a space where people could be together.

We are stronger when we choose connection over division. Lets continue to show solidarity with people on the move!

Thank you to everyone who made the day so special!

The Hub | Kos

Beach volleyball is back! With summer on the way, we’ve been gathering in the late afternoons to play together — the start of our weekly Monday sessions at 5pm for the whole community.

These moments are precious in Kos. They give us space to disconnect, move our bodies, and enjoy time together beyond the community centre. Our project grows through these shared experiences, shaped by everyone who joins.

What I ordered vs what I got, Glocal Roots edition.

Online: “this looks cute!”

In real life: obsessed with the textures, the colours and the details.

And the best part? Every piece started as leftover fabric before being turned into something new in our ateliers in Greece and Türkiye, where refugee women get fair employment.

The Hub | Kos

The past month has been full of celebrations at the Hub. We marked many community birthdays with time together at the Centre and even at the beach. Eid was a highlight, with decorations, homemade treats, music, laughter, and dancing. We also hosted community dinners and dance nights!

For some, these gatherings are the only chance to enjoy social time outside of work or the camp. It’s through these shared moments that our community grows, shaped by everyone’s presence and contribution.

The Victoria Community Centre | Athens

Celebrating a few of the wonderful individuals who’ve joined us at the VCC.

Our community is shaped by the diversity and individuality of its members. Jacob — photographer and former Glocal Roots volunteer — captured this beautifully.

Everyone's story matters

Our free wardrobe, tucked along the corridor of our Women’s & Children’s Space, has gently supported women and families in Athens for many years. It stays stocked thanks to the generosity of locals, partner organisations, students, and the many volunteers who support our projects.

Every donation is washed and sorted by age and season, helping families quickly find what they need.

Clothing is always a vital need. If you have clothes, shoes, or accessories to donate, we’d love to hear from you. Feel free to stop by the Centre and drop them off at the Women’s & Kids’ Space.
