Zurich International School

Zurich International School Being a great educator is about striking the perfect balance. It’s a home-away-from-home, that gives them the confidence to go anywhere.

Zurich International School is an inclusive non-profit day school in the Greater Zurich area that delivers comprehensive, bilingual and international educational programs for local and foreign national students aged 3 to 18. At Zurich International School, we believe that the most important thing a child should learn is to love learning. That’s a habit that will stay with them for life, encouragin

g them to empathize, to go further, and to be open to new things. Our curriculum challenges them to explore and engage with subjects, without extinguishing their spark for learning. We introduce students to a wide range of activities, to help them discover unexpected lifelong passions. We’ve invested in building top-class facilities, and in nurturing a diverse community where students feel they belong.

Yesterday, we had the pleasure of hosting our Volunteer Breakfast to celebrate and thank the incredible parent volunteers who supported our community throughout the past school year.

More than 70 volunteers joined us as we reflected on the many ways their dedication, generosity, and commitment have enriched campus life. From creating meaningful connections and providing delicious treats to organizing and helping events run smoothly, their contributions have made a lasting impact.

Behind every successful event and many memorable moments are volunteers who quietly make things happen. We are fortunate to have such an engaged and supportive parent community.

The future is in good hands. 🎓

Last Saturday, we celebrated the Class of 2026 as 130 graduates crossed the stage, surrounded by proud families, friends, teachers, and classmates. It was a day filled with excitement, gratitude, and countless memories.

Director Elsa Hernández-Donohue, Upper School Principal David Markus, Assistant Principals Alison Callaghan and Jason Musselman, together with the Grade 12 advisors, presented diplomas to the graduates, while Board Chair Markus Klose recognized this year’s award recipients for their outstanding achievements.

A special highlight was welcoming alumni Gil Glasenberg (Class of 2012), who returned to share his ZIS journey and a perspective on life beyond graduation. His message encouraged students to stay open to new possibilities, trust their instincts, and recognize that some of life’s most meaningful opportunities often appear when least expected.

Seniors Anouchka Michel and Ethan Kahn also shared heartfelt reflections on their time at ZIS, celebrating memories and friendships that will last and continue long after graduation.

The graduates also took time to acknowledge the important role their parents and families have played along the way. Their encouragement, support, and belief in their children have been invaluable throughout this journey and in reaching this significant milestone.

The celebration was accompanied by musical performances featuring members of the Senior Class and the ZIS Concert Band, creating a joyful and festive atmosphere as we honored this remarkable group of graduates and all they have accomplished.

Congratulations, Class of 2026! Wherever your next adventure takes you, you will always be part of the ZIS community.

We look forward to seeing the impact you will make on the world.

With graduation just one day away, the Class of 2026 has already begun its celebrations in style.

This morning, Grade 12 students gathered for a special breakfast hosted by the ZIS Advancement and warmly supported by Director Elsa Hernández-Donohue.

During the event, Principal David Markus presented a series of student awards, including the Academic Scholarship Award, which honors outstanding academic achievement, course rigor, and leadership. He also recognized recipients of the Principal’s Award, given to students who embody our school’s mission through their positive contributions to the community.

A joyful start to a weekend dedicated to celebrating the Class of 2026.

Paul's journey, from a curious young traveler from Cork, Ireland, to a beloved educator who brought history to life for generations of students, was featured in our 2018 Voices magazine. Read his story: https://voices.zis.ch/paul_doolan/

What does education look like without barriers?

ZIS leaders and students recently met with team members from 'Still I Rise' - a non-profit organization providing free, world-class education to refugee and underprivileged children, offering International Baccalaureate pathways in Kenya and Colombia, as well as educational programs in emergency contexts such as Syria, Yemen, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and South Sudan.

The conversation was an inspiring exchange of ideas around global citizenship, access to education, philanthropy, and the shared belief that every child deserves the opportunity to thrive.

The meeting also allowed Grade 11 students to connect in person with representatives from the organization they have chosen to support and advocate for. Through our ZISCares program, students are encouraged to turn compassion into action through clubs, service initiatives, and community partnerships. Many of these efforts are supported by Annual Fund donations, empowering students to lead with purpose and create meaningful impact locally and globally.

At ZIS, we are proud to be part of a global community committed to inclusion, opportunity, and belonging. Together with organizations like 'Still I Rise', we are helping shape a better world - one student at a time.

🎢 Physics in Motion!

Recently, AP Physics 1 students turned Europa Park into their Physics laboratory!

31 students and 3 teachers spent the day investigating translational and rotational motion by collecting data on rides and creating their own research questions based on the attractions.

Learning became fast, exciting, and very real!

The students not only tackled complex real-world systems like true scientists, but also enjoyed an amazing day together with friends and classmates under beautiful sunny skies. ☀️

At the end of the trip, everyone agreed on one thing: the biggest challenge was simply not having more time!

A special thank you to our amazing science teachers for making science engaging, hands-on, and truly unforgettable. 👏✨
