It’s official — our Solar Energy Racer project has begun!
A powerful collaboration between apprentices from three companies Bühler Group, FISBA and Empa, this project brings together creativity, engineering excellence, and a shared passion for sustainable innovation.
Our team will build a solar-powered vehicle to compete in the Sasol Solar Challenge 2026, an eight-day, 2,000+ km adventure across South Africa that pushes technology, teamwork, and strategy to the limit.

A great weekend for SER at the 24hrs European Solar Challenge ESC 2024 in Zolder/Belgium... finishing 5th out of 18 participants, and scoring points in all three competitions (covering more than 1'000km, lap graphics courtesy of Scientific Gems). After an overly enthousiastic approach to the first chicane on Sunday morning the team put a great 3hrs effort in making the car run again, winning them the special 'Spirit of the Event' award. Also SER won the trophy of the better Swiss participant, despite being a team of only ten, and without Starlink connection to the car :-)

For the 2024 European Solar Challenge in Zolder/Belgium of this weekend we prepared something special: commemorating next year's 40 years anniversary of the Tour de Sol we rebuilt a 1994 vintage solar race car. Based on the design of the 1987 winner car Mobi-II (blue car, courtesy of W***y Lanker) a small number of roadworthy replicas were built until 1994 (red car, in convertible version, with official number plate). One of these cars was modified to fully comply with current BWSC tech regulations (white shell, courtesy of Theo Thalmann), and is raced as SER-5 this weekend... so far performing well... stay tuned!

Congrats to our partner team aCentauri Solar of ETH Zürich: As the best newcomer in this year's Bridgestone World Solar Challenge they made it as the last finisher just in time to Adelaide... 15 mins left. Solar Energy Racers have substantially contributed to this achievement since the inception of the aCentauri team, with consulting and car & team gear: the complete drive unit including race wheels were supplied by SER.

Last weekend our partner team aCentauri Solar Racing of ETH Zürich completed a successful rollout of their new car at 'our' track on the Thun army training ground: SER supports the project with substantial contributions in drive components, BWSC gear and consulting... we keep our fingers crossed !
