EDOG at EU MODEX Switzerland 2026: Exercise design and role-play for real emergencies
Around 500 participants, about half of them from abroad, trained from October 6 to 8 in the Swiss Armed Forces’ exercise village in Epeisses, in Geneva itself and at Payerne military airfield to cope with the consequences of a major earthquake. The Federal Office for Civil Protection FOCP draws a positive conclusion.
REDOG was already involved in the preparations and designed demanding search tasks for the dogs of the participating teams. Cooperation with the partner teams from civil protection Vaud and Geneva went very well. The REDOG team supervised damage sites and was also able to observe how other teams work. Joint training like this is important: you get to know each other across borders and are stronger together in a real emergency.
Together with volunteers from the other Swiss Red Cross rescue organizations, REDOG members were deployed day and night as role players. They played worried relatives, pregnant women, influencers, spontaneous helpers and much more. A moulage team worked under high pressure to create realistic injuries with make-up.
Thank you to all volunteers and partner teams for their outstanding commitment! 🙏
