Looking back at an unforgettable BWBW week on Cape Clear Island, Ireland. ☀️🍀

Seven days filled with sunshine, laughter, adventure, conversations and genuine connection. From the very first day, the atmosphere was something special – open, joyful and full of energy.

Cape Clear has a kind of magic. Stepping into the island’s unique culture and way of life felt like entering a little world of its own. And every day brought a new highlight.

Together, we restored a section of traditional dry stone wall on Fiona’s farm, helping preserve a craft and landscape that have shaped the island for generations. And thanks to Fiona’s incredible hospitality, every working day came with freshly baked cookies and homemade iced coffee – a treat we all looked forward to. 🍪☕💚

We broke records with the biggest campfire we’ve ever built 🔥, climbed breathtaking cliffs, caught our own dinner, shared countless meals and stories, and created memories we’ll carry with us for a long time.

But more than anything, this week was about the people. Strangers became teammates, teammates became friends, and friendships were built that will last far beyond this project.

A huge thank you to everyone who made this week so special. What an incredible experience. 💚 See you at the next Building Walls – Breaking Walls adventure!

What do international evenings at BWBW actually look like? 🌍

Usually, four different countries come together during one project week and each group gets its own cultural evening.

Participants prepare traditional food from their country, share stories, music, history, traditions and funny cultural facts with the rest of the group.

✨🌏🗺 Interesting facts, stories and traditions from each country
🥙🫕🍝 Local dishes and homemade specialties prepared by the participants
🗣️🫂Conversations about diversity, differences and everyday life in other cultures
🪕🎲🧩 Music, games, dancing and discovering cultures through real people, not just theory

International evenings are one of the best parts of BWBW!
Some nights turn into deep conversations. Others into dancing, laughing and discovering how different and similar we all are.

These moments are what makes BWBW special:
getting to know cultures not through the internet or stereotypes but through real people and shared experiences.

Because sometimes understanding another culture starts with something simple:
sitting together around one table.

Would you join a cultural evening like this? 🌿

They’re writing about us 🌿📰🗞

We’re very happy to see Building Walls Breaking Walls featured in the 2025 report of the Ernst Göhner Stiftung.

It means a lot to us that our project is recognised as meaningful and relevant: bringing together young people from different cultures, preserving Swiss cultural heritage and creating real intercultural exchange through shared experiences.

What started as a simple idea years ago has grown into an international community built on connection, dialogue and teamwork.

A huge thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey: participants, team members, partners and supporters 💚

And if you’d like to experience BWBW yourself:
applications for our summer projects are still open.

Why do we feel better after spending time outdoors? 🌿
Maybe because nature slows us down. Because for a moment, we stop scrolling, stop rushing and start paying attention to the world around us.

Fresh air, mountains, forests, oceans, sunsets, conversations outside, these simple things often make us feel more connected, calmer and more present.

World Environment Day is a reminder that protecting nature is not only about the planet itself. It’s also about protecting the spaces that make us feel human.

And protecting it can start with simple things:
🌱 spending more time in nature
♻️ reducing waste
⛰️ respecting natural landscapes
🤝 supporting local environmental projects
🌍 living a little more consciously every day

What helps you reconnect with nature? 🌿
