In the 2nd EIM Masterclass, we had the honor of welcoming Taufiq Us Samad Tonmoy, Deputy Director of Bangladesh Bank (the central bank of Bangladesh), to explore how entrepreneurs can harness the power of data to drive smarter decisions. The session emphasized the shift from gut feelings and assumptions toward clarity, growth, and continuous upscaling.

Mr. Samad highlighted that while intuition is valuable in the early stages of a venture, relying solely on it becomes risky as businesses expand. Data does not replace intuition; it validates and strengthens it. Through compelling case studies, we saw how Netflix used user interaction data to revolutionize content recommendations, and how Spotify relied on A/B testing and machine learning to boost engagement. Similarly, Instagram, Warby Parker, bKash, and Starbucks demonstrated how uncovering hidden opportunities and optimizing processes with data can transform industries.

A practical framework was shared: define clear goals and KPIs, collect the right data, analyse and visualize with tools like Google Sheets or Power BI, then act and adapt in continuous cycles. Zara’s fast-fashion model illustrated how real-time data minimizes waste and maximizes profitability, while Nokia’s decline served as a cautionary tale of ignoring market signals.

The session concluded with a powerful message: building a data-driven culture is not just about tools it is about mindset. Entrepreneurs must stay curious, make data accessible, start small, and balance intuition with evidence. In a world of rapid change, the future belongs to those who listen to what the data says and act on it with vision and agility.
