🇫🇷 CCC lance un nouvel inventaire des caméléons dans la réserve de Maromizaha, une forêt humide exceptionnelle de l’est de Madagascar située au cœur du corridor forestier Ankeniheny-Zahamena (CAZ).

Après Vohimana et Iaroka, ce troisième site vient renforcer notre programme régional de conservation des caméléons de l’est malgache afin de mieux comprendre la diversité des espèces, les impacts de la fragmentation forestière et les enjeux de conservation de ces forêts parmi les plus riches et menacées du pays.

Ce projet est réalisé par Winkler Max Parfait Bemaro, étudiant à 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗲́ 𝗱𝗲 𝗧𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗿𝗮 - 𝗠𝗮𝗱𝗮𝗴𝗮𝘀𝗰𝗮𝗿, en collaboration avec le GERP Madagascar, gestionnaire de la réserve de Maromizaha.

🇬🇧 CCC is launching a new chameleon survey in the Maromizaha Reserve, an exceptional rainforest in eastern Madagascar situated at the heart of the Ankeniheny-Zahamena Forest Corridor (CAZ).

Following Vohimana and Iaroka, this third site strengthens our regional programme for the conservation of chameleons in eastern Madagascar, aiming to better understand species diversity, the impacts of forest fragmentation, and the conservation challenges facing these forests, which are among the richest and most threatened in the country.

This project is being carried out by Bemaro PARFAIT, a student at the University of Toliara, in collaboration with GERP, the manager of the Maromizaha Reserve.

A new article examines the spatial distribution and microhabitat use of an introduced population of Chamaeleo chamaeleon in Malta. The authors find higher population densities in northern localities with more structurally complex vegetation, while also testing for effects of seasonality and anthropogenic influences on density. Variation in horizontal position within vegetation and perch height across body sizes is also documented suggesting partial ontogenetic niche partitioning.

🇫🇷 💚 Une immense émotion pour le Caméléon Center Conservation.

La toute première Journée Internationale du Caméléon organisée par le CCC à Madagascar a rassemblé à Andasibe plus de 1’000 participants : habitants, enfants, autorités locales, étudiants, associations, scientifiques et partenaires engagés pour la biodiversité malgache.

Organisée au cœur même du pays qui abrite près de la moitié des espèces de caméléons de la planète, cette journée rappelle que la conservation doit aussi se construire sur le terrain, avec les populations locales.

Le CCC remercie chaleureusement le Ministère de l’Environnement et du Développement Durable de Madagascar pour le parrainage de cette journée, ainsi que Michaël Townley, coordinateur national du CCC à Madagascar, et Linah Rene DE Roland, responsable scientifique du CCC à Madagascar, pour leur engagement dans la réussite de cette première édition.

🇬🇧 💚 It was a deeply moving occasion for the Caméléon Center Conservation.

The very first International Chameleon Day, organised by the CCC in Madagascar, brought together more than 1,000 participants in Andasibe: local residents, children, local authorities, students, organisations, scientists and partners committed to Madagascar’s biodiversity.

Held in the very heart of the country that is home to nearly half of the world’s chameleon species, this day serves as a reminder that conservation must also be built on the ground, alongside local communities.

The CCC warmly thanks the Ministry of the Environment and Sustainable Development of Madagascar for sponsoring this event, as well as Michaël Ramalanjaona, the CCC’s national coordinator in Madagascar, and Dr Angelinah René de Roland, the CCC’s scientific lead in Madagascar, for their commitment to the success of this inaugural event.
