Take A Stand

Take A Stand Take A Stand is an Awareness Campaign for Civic Engagement. The European citizens community faces a future of unknown challenges.

Take A Stand - Supporting Civic Engagement

Take A Stand: An Awareness Campaign for Civic Engagement in Europe launched at the Yourope Members Meeting in London. The political climate and social conditions for residents in Europe are changing, leading to new demands for the protection and confirmation of European social achievements secured over recent years. Recognising the undeniable variations

in almost every field essential for the cohesion of civil society in Europe, Yourope, the association of music festivals in Europe, agreed and decided to initiate Take A Stand, a campaign aimed at raising awareness of, and encouraging civic engagement. In the mission statement for Take A Stand, Yourope declares: “It‘s time to take a stand for Europe, and indeed for the whole world. To create a movement encouraging social cohesion in our society, promoting awareness and tolerance for all cultures, genders, races, religions, sexual orientations, colours and origins. To motivate people to participate in politics and social activities, speaking up for peaceful dialogue, humanism, tolerance and mutual understanding, to make the world a better place for every single individual and for all of us.”

The key mission for Take A Stand is to motivate and to encourage all those who are in favour of the European ideal and its values to speak up, to tolerate & respect, to be open minded, to show solidarity and to become active. Yourope welcomes all live music professionals to join as partners: festivals, promoters, clubs, associations, companies and others are invited to become ambassadors and representatives of this campaign. Yourope furthermore welcomes other NGO's, charity organisations, foundations and institutions, initiatives and individuals that share and agree on the aims of Take A Stand to participate and join the campaign. Yourope represents close to 100 music festivals and associated members throughout Europe. Live music events and in particular festivals benefitted significantly from EU-achievements such as border free travel, allowing music fans and artists to discover and enjoy the widely diversified cultural environment offered by all European countries. The roll out of Take A Stand will appear within this year's festival season. A wide range of opportunities and information on how to join Take A Stand as well as logos and graphics can be found on the website www.take-a-stand.eu.

Special times call for special appearances. This weekend, tens of thousands of spectators at the Festival saw independent senator taking the stage. before announcing 's concert, he addressed the crowd and made reference to the events that have preoccupied US society to an unprecedented degree in recent weeks and months.
It doesn't take clairvoyant abilities to recognise that the domestic political upheaval, which is currently being implemented by the government without forbearance, will rather sooner than later also affect the festival sector, the lifestyle and the values of the crowds and creators as well as the artists. Just look at the fight against diversity, equity and inclusion.
Festivals and musicians will have to speak out in order to safeguard and preserve their values - not only in the US. It's good to see that this is happening at Coachella, which until now has not been known as the most political of stages. 💛🖤

Since Take A Stand was launched in 2017, all kinds of festivals - members and non-members - have used our banner to promoter their activities and projects around values like freedom, tolerance and solidarity.
To honor festivals' social contributions, Yourope - The European Festival Association gives out the Take a Stand Award at the European Festival Awards. This time, the jury had the luxury (and challenge) to select from applications on a wide range of topics: a joint awareness project, digital addiction, Ukraine support, gender equality, and inclusion.
In the end, the jury chose Exit Festival's campaign "Life is Live", which highlights the importance of face-to-face interactions for our wellbeing and raises awareness for digital addiction among young people.
"This is a topic not traditionally prioritized in the industry," said Arnaud Pasquali, program manager of Creative Europe at the European Commission, who handed out the award. "This festival has not only approached the issue with strong international partnerships, but has done so in a manner that is both festival-like and appealing. It reached a million people, proclaiming that 'True stories last a lifetime,' a profoundly positive message."
While the internet and social networks make constant communication easy, they also tend to create a feeling of loneliness among its users. Festivals can serve as a real-life alternative for staying in touch and fostering friendships. This is what EXIT Festival (RS) managed to highlight in an outstanding manner with "Life is Live."

Congrats!
