Farewell to Our Managing Director, Bertha 🌸

Today, we bid a heartfelt goodbye to our long-standing Managing Director, Bertha Camacho, as she embarks on an exciting new chapter. Bertha has been an integral part of Skat since 2007, starting back when Skat Foundation was still part of Skat Consulting Ltd. Since 2017, she has been at the helm of Skat Foundation, guiding us with unwavering leadership, dedication, and a unique talent for nurturing the potential of every team member. Under her leadership, Skat Foundation received the certification in 2020 and became a fully independent organization in 2021. Since then, significant partnerships have been cultivated, including joining the Allianz Sufosec, with the shared goal of strengthening local food systems and communities.

Bertha’s impact on our organization is immeasurable. Known for her incredible sense of humor and her gift for storytelling, she’s been the glue that holds our team together. Whether through deep interpersonal connections or her ability to make us all feel part of something meaningful, Bertha has ensured that Skat Foundation remained a place of growth, respect, and purpose.

Bertha will be moving closer to home and taking on the role of Head of Programmes at the Kinderdorf Pestalozzi Children's Foundation in Trogen. While we will miss her dearly, we are also incredibly excited for her and this next phase in her journey.

🌟🎉 We are happy to welcome Dr. Angelica Wehrli as the new Managing Director of Skat Foundation!

As of September 1, 2024, Angelica is the new Managing Director of Skat Foundation. She brings over 25 years of expertise in project management, research, training, fundraising, committee work, and knowledge management. She has successfully secured funding for numerous large-scale projects and developed and implemented strategic initiatives. Furthermore, Angelica has extensive experience in topics related to Gender Equality, Health and Education, and Public Policy.

Angelica shares with us: "My mission is to uphold the successful initiatives and drive innovative projects in partnership with all of you. I have spent over five years living and working in Latin America, Asia, Africa, North America, and the Pacific region. These experiences have provided me with a deep understanding of local cultures and challenges, which I am eager to leverage for the benefit of Skat Foundation. I am deeply committed to a respectful and open environment where innovation and excellence can thrive. I am very thankful for Skat Foundation's warm welcome and am looking forward to our journey together."

Bertha Camacho will be gradually handing over operations throughout the month until her official departure on September 30.

🇧🇴 Launching a New Phase of our Project in Bolivia 🇧🇴

The "Integration and Reintegration of Women and Youth into the Labor Market" project aims to empower women and young people by integrating them into the waste management sector, thereby promoting sustainable practices and enhancing community well-being. The project is led by our local partner Familia Fundación.

💪 Empowerment: This project focuses on providing training and resources to women and youth, enabling them to play a vital role in waste management.

💼 Employment: By integrating young people into the labor market and supporting young entrepreneurs (particularly young women) in sustainable fields, new economic opportunities are created.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to the for their generous donation, which makes this important work possible. Their support allows us to continue driving positive change and empowering communities in Bolivia.

This year’s theme focuses on ‘Transforming Food Systems – Youth Innovation for Human and Planetary Health’.

Students of International Affairs & Governance from the Universität St.Gallen (HSG) have shared their insights on global food system challenges and their vision for a sustainable future.

✨ Inspiring Young Talent: Corentin Chofflon’s Water Research ✨
Yesterday, we had the pleasure of hosting Corentin Chofflon, this year’s winner of the Stockholm Junior Water Prize - Switzerland and recent graduate of Collège St-Michel / Kollegium St. Michael. Corentin presented his research to our community of water experts and enthusiasts as part of a special coaching session.

His remarkable work involved mapping 17 mountain huts in the Swiss Alps, analyzing their water resource management, and proposing sustainable solutions to keep these huts open year-round. As climate change exacerbates water scarcity, even in our naturally water-rich Alps, Corentin’s research is both timely and critical.

Next up, Corentin will represent Switzerland at the Stockholm Junior Water Prize hosted by the Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI), where he will compete with 28 other projects from around the globe. We are incredibly proud of his achievements and are confident he will make a significant impact on this international stage.
