Today is the International Day of Rural Women. As part of our Farmer Wants… campaign for the International Year of the Woman Farmer, we're asking what women farmers want and need to succeed, and how the seed sector can contribute.

Jenna Jacobs co-founded La Ferme coopérative aux Champs qui Chantent in Québec, where she and her team produce organic vegetables, flowers and eggs while building farming systems that work with nature.

For organic farmers, sustainability starts with the right seed. By growing certified organic vegetable varieties from Bejo Seeds, Jenna is able to produce healthy crops while supporting resilient farming systems from seed to harvest.

Her story shows how quality organic seed helps women farmers turn ecological principles into productive and sustainable farms.

In the final session of ISF’s Combatting Illegal Seed Practices: From Awareness to Action series, Piotr Stryszowski, OECD discussed longer-term approaches to addressing illicit trade, highlighting the role of trusted certification systems in helping legitimate businesses demonstrate that they are operating within the rules.

ISF has updated its differential set for lettuce mosaic virus (LMV), supporting consistent identification of LMV races and communication of resistance in lettuce.

Following the revised CPVO lettuce Technical Protocol published in August 2026, the existing pathotypic groups I–IV are now designated as races LMV:1–4, respectively. In particular, pathotypic group II is designated LMV:2, and group III is designated LMV:3.

The updated terminology describes existing pathotypic groups; the underlying resistance characteristics of lettuce varieties remain unchanged.

Over the past days, Ben Rivoire, ISF Director Sustainability and Crop Value Chain Engagement, brought the seed sector's perspective to two wider conversations on sustainability and food systems.

In Munich, at a meeting hosted by Paulaner, a member of The Consumer Goods Forum's SSCI initiative, food and beverage actors discussed the credible standards needed for more resilient and sustainable supply chains. It was an opportunity to benchmark with other industries and share how the recently launched ISF Social Rights Guidelines help seed companies strengthen social and ethical practices in seed production.

In Madrid, at FRUIT ATTRACTION, ISF joined the IFPA European Council's "Better Nutrition for Better Health" campaign, alongside ISF members and actors from across the fresh produce value chain, to highlight the role of seed innovation in healthier diets.

Two different settings, one shared idea: what happens at the start of the value chain matters all the way to the consumer. Tomorrow, our ISF Seed Talks "𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗜𝗦𝗙 𝗦𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗥𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗘𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗦𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿" will look at what responsible practices mean in seed production, with speakers from seed companies and associations sharing concrete examples from the field.
