From 14th to 16th August 2026, a FIDE Arbiters’ Seminar was organized in Nouakchott (MTN), by the Mauritanian Chess Federation, under the auspices of FIDE.

The Lecturer was IA/IO Messaoudi, Bechir (TUN), FIDE Lecturer and Local Assistant Lecturer was IA Kreiked, Aly Moctar (MTN).

The language of the Seminar was French with translation into Arabic.

Seventeen (17) arbiters from MTN chess federation participated in the Seminar and sixteen (16) participated in the examination test, held after the end of the lectures.

From 11th to 13th September 2026, a FIDE Arbiters’ Seminar was organized in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, by the All India Chess Federation, under the auspices of FIDE.

The Lecturer was IA Rathinam, Anantharam (IND), FIDE Lecturer, and the Local Assistant Lecturer was IA Bhardwaj, Vipnesh (IND).

The language of the Seminar was English.

Nineteen (19) arbiters from India participated in the Seminar and all of them participated in the examination test, held after the end of the lectures.

The 236th Internet Based FIDE Arbiters’ Seminar (Asian Chess Federation) was held from 4th to 6th September 2026. It was organized by the Asian Chess Federation, under the auspices of FIDE.

The Lecturer was IA/IO Pahlevanzadeh, Mehrdad (IRI), FIDE Lecturer, and Local Assistant Lecturer was IA Pagaran, Michael Joseph (PHI).

The Language of the Seminar was English.

Twenty-two (22) arbiters from fourteen (14) national chess federation (BEL, CAN, CHN, CRO, IND, JPN, NGR, PAK, ROU, RSA, SRB, TUR, USA, and ZIM) participated in the Seminar, and all of them participated in the examination test, held after the end of the lectures.

FIDE Arbiters’ Awards 2026 Presented at the ARB Congress Meeting

Today, during the meeting of the FIDE Arbiters’ (ARB) Commission, the Arbiters’ Awards 2026 were presented.

The awards were handed to the recipients who were present at the meeting, while the awards of those who were unable to attend were received on their behalf by their national federations, which will present them at an official ceremony in their respective countries.

The FIDE Arbiter’s Award is granted to arbiters with a minimum of 35 years of service as an International Arbiter (having held the IA title since at least 1991) who have served as an arbiter in at least three FIDE Major Events (Olympiads, World Championships, etc.).

FIDE Arbiters’ Commission releases a new edition of the FIDE Arbiters’ Manual 2026

The FIDE Arbiters’ Commission is pleased to release the edition 2026 of the FIDE Arbiters’ Manual.

The FIDE Interim President, GM Viswanathan Anand wrote in the introduction:

This Manual serves as one of the key reference points for arbiters, players, organisers, and all those seeking a deeper understanding of the rules and regulations of chess. The purpose of the Manual is to provide clear explanations, practical guidance, and up-to-date interpretations of the FIDE regulations that govern our game.

Several important updates have been introduced in the FIDE Handbook since the previous edition. These include:

further refinements to rating and title regulations
updated tie-break and playoff procedures
continued harmonisation of rules across standard, rapid, and blitz
The work presented here is the result of a collective effort by a highly committed team of experts. Team led by IA Anantharam Rathinam (IND) and members Alex McFarlane (SCO), Amir Erfan Hashemi (IRI), Arasu B (IND), Ashot Vardapetyan (ARM), Chanda Nsakanya (ZAM), Cicek Melih (TUR), Ganesh Babu S (IND), Gilton Mkumbwa (MWI), Gopakumar S (IND), Kamalov Jakhongir (UZB), Klaus Deventer (GER), Marco Biagioli (ITA), Mario Held (ITA), Roberto Ricca (ITA), Shaun Press (PNG) and Swapnil Bansod (IND).

They all provided very valuable input.

The 232nd Internet Based FIDE Arbiters’ Seminar (WOM) was held from 4th to 6th September 2026. It was organized by the FIDE Commission for Women’s Chess , under the auspices of FIDE.

The Lecturer was IA Bansod Swapnil (IND), FIDE Lecturer, and Assistant Lecturer was IA Delega, Tomasz (POL), Lecturer Training Programme.

The Language of the Seminar was English.

Twenty two (22) Women National Arbiters from twenty (20) chess federations from all over the world (AZE, BOT, CHN, CRO, FIN, GHA, GUY, IND, JPN, KEN, MAS, MGL, PAK, POR, SGP, SLO, SRB, TUR, UGA, and ZIM) participated in the Seminar and all of them participated in the examination test, which was held after the end of the lectures, according to the Arbiters’ Commission guidelines and covering all the topics of the seminar.

The 235th Internet Based FIDE Arbiters’ Seminar (FRA) was held from 30th August to 6th September 2026. It was organized by the French Chess Federation – FFE, under the auspices of FIDE.

The Lecturer was IA Escafre, Stephane (FRA), FIDE Lecturer.

The Language of the Seminar was French.

Twenty (20) arbiters from five (5) national federations (ALG, FRA, ITA, LBN, and MNC) participated in the Seminar, and all of them participated in the examination test, held after the end of the lectures.

The 234th Internet Based FIDE Arbiters’ Seminar (CCA) was held from 28th to 31st August 2026. It was organized by the Confederation of Chess for Americas, under the auspices of FIDE.

The Lecturer was IA Munoz Solis, Carolina (CRC), FIDE Lecturer, and the Local Assistant Lecturer was IA Diaz, Geber Eloy (VEN).

The Language of the Seminar was English.

Twenty (20) arbiters from fifteen (15) chess federations (BAR, BIZ, CAY, CRC, CUR, DMA, GUY, JAM, LCA, NZL, SKN, SUR, TTO, USA, and VIN) participated in the Seminar, and all of them participated in the examination test, held after the end of the lectures.

The 231st Internet Based FIDE Arbiters’ Seminar (PAN) was held from 20th to 23rd August 2026. It was organized by the Panamanian Chess Federation, under the auspices of FIDE.

The Lecturer was IA/IO Hermida, Marcelo Mariano (ARG), FIDE Lecturer, and the Local Assistant Arbiter was be IA Rondon Chacon, Yolys Desiree (PAN).

The Language of the Seminar was Spanish.

Eighteen (18) arbiters from six (6) chess federations (ARG, CHI, ESP, MEX, PAN, and PUR) participated in the Seminar, and all of them participated in the examination test, held after the end of the lectures.
