Want a real look at what the UNICON Leadership Academy (ULA) experience is like? In this video, current participants Chris Duncan (University of Cambridge), Margie Blanton (Harvard University), and Avilla Bergin (The University of Manchester) share what they have learned, what has surprised them, and what they are already taking back to their institutions as they near graduation.

ULA is UNICON’s 8-month leadership development programme for executive education professionals. It brings together a global peer group and executive education leaders from many of the world’s top schools, with practical learning you can apply immediately.

We are now recruiting the next ULA cohort, and applications are filling quickly. Places are offered on a first-come, first-served basis.

Can competitors truly be friends? One of our strategic pillars, as presented by our Board Chair Shalini Bhatia from Stanford Graduate School of Business this week, is "One UNICON" - and these photos are proof.

Behind the sessions, the breakouts, and the strategy discussions at 2026 at Institute for Management Development IMD, something else was happening: genuine connection. The kind you can't manufacture (even with AI).

Here's a selection of the most unscripted laughs, spontaneous moments, and warm exchanges from behind the scenes with nearly 100 executive education leaders from around the world - because the real magic of this community happens when the slides are off, and the people show up.

Day 2 of was all about “Strategy for the Future” - big-picture thinking, practical tools, and great conversations with colleagues from across the UNICON community. And yes, we did Switzerland properly: an evening in Gruyères, a visit to Maison Ca***er, and plenty of good conversation over cheese and chocolate (watch this space for the "unofficial foundue fun pics") 👀 🧀 🇨🇭

Highlights from yesterday:

- A high-energy Future-Back Exercise with Knut Haanaes, looking at two very different 2035 scenarios and the strategic choices that will shape what happens next

- A data-driven session on global growth and “blue oceans” with Mark Greeven, exploring where ExecEd demand is accelerating and what that means for our portfolios and partnerships

- A hands-on future readiness session with IMD Strategic Talent Solutions, focusing on the capabilities that will matter most over the next 3-5 years

Today we’ve kicked off Day 3: “Managing the Enterprise” - shifting from strategy to the partnerships, talent, culture, and resilience needed to deliver in this new environment.

Day 1 of the UNICON Directors’ Conference 2026 is underway in Lausanne, hosted by Institute for Management Development IMD, and it’s been a joy to see our community together again.

This afternoon, Prof. Richard Baldwin (IMD) opened with a reflection that captured the spirit of UNICON: “I’m not sure if you’re friends or competitors!”

The reality in executive education is that we’re both - and that’s what makes this network so valuable. We learn from each other, we share openly, and we also challenge each other to raise the bar.

Meanwhile, in their opening remarks, Shalini Bhatia, UNICON Board Chair, and Melanie Weaver Barnett, UNICON Executive Director, set the tone: “I don’t know if there’s ever been a more important time for us all to be together here. We are navigating a ‘polycrisis’ defined by more uncertainty, more volatility, more complexity, and more ambiguity than ever. In these moments, leaders seek not only learning but also their “tribe”, and I think we are our tribe for each other. So, while we're here, let’s connect, ideate and think innovatively to go home with new perspectives and ideas for the work ahead.”

A warm welcome to everyone joining for the first time, and welcome back to those returning. Here are a few warm, spontaneous and precious moments from this morning. Enjoy the next few days!
