Meet the Speaker: Debora Lütolf
🇨🇭 What does home education look like in a country where the rules can change simply by crossing a cantonal border?
This September, Debora Lütolf from Switzerland will join us at Education Unbound.
Debora is a mother of four, a long-standing advocate for freedom of choice in education, and a key figure in the Swiss home education community. She founded pioneering networks and a website for home-educating families in French-speaking Switzerland and today also represents the Swiss association internationally.
A particularly important part of her work concerns children who struggle within conventional educational settings. Through GEBS, she works with families of children with specific educational needs; the Swiss association also documents her many years of experience supporting children with dyslexia and other learning differences, ADHD and high ability.
Her perspective is especially interesting because Switzerland does not have one single system for home education.
Each of its 26 cantons has its own legislation, meaning that the possibilities available to a family can vary considerably depending on where they live.
Debora therefore brings to the conference years of experience at the intersection of families, children, schools and public authorities.
How can we protect educational choice while maintaining constructive dialogue?
How can we support children for whom the conventional system does not work?
And what can European countries learn from one another?
We look forward to exploring these questions together in Slovenia.
