The International Dart Federation (IDF) proudly announces an historic milestone for the entire darts community. Following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the World Darts Federation (WDF), during the WDF General Meeting held on 20 February 2025, the IDF has been officially recognised as an Associate Member of the WDF.

The recognition of IDF as Associate Member of the WDF is more than an agreement between two federations — it is a turning point for the entire sport. By formally acknowledging Soft Darts, e-Darts, Virtual Darts and Para Soft Darts as official disciplines, the darts community has taken a decisive step toward unity, professionalism and growth.

“This is a milestone for everyone who loves darts,” stated Marco Tomasini, CEO and General Secretary of the IDF. “For decades, soft tip and electronic formats have grown into hugely popular and highly skilled disciplines played by millions of people. Now they finally have the governance, structure and recognition they deserve. On behalf of the IDF, I want to thank the WDF and our member organisations for the trust they have placed in us. This partnership brings unity across all formats, strengthens competition pathways, boosts opportunities for athletes — including para athletes — and opens new doors for development, anti-doping alignment and global tournaments. We will work tirelessly to honour this responsibility and to grow the sport at every level. I would Like to thank the WDF President Buddy Bartoletta, the Vice President for Finance Sabine Shanahan, the Secretary General Nick Rolls and the Membership Officer Dietmar Schuhmann. They are solid partners for IDF and a guide for the World of Darts.”

It is with great sadness that the International World Games Association has learned of the passing of Executive Committee Member Volker Bernardi at the age of 56.

First elected in 2018, Mr Bernardi was serving his second term on the IWGA Executive Committee, with his mandate extended through 2026.

The World Games family’s thoughts are with Mr Bernardi’s family, friends, and all those within the global sports community whose lives he touched. His contributions to the IWGA and beyond will endure as a lasting testament to his legacy.

TO ALL THE IDF MEMBERS

Dear Members of the International Dart Federation Dart Federation,
Following the announcement of the partnerships with World Darts Federation the IDF Staff, the CEO and the Sport Director are reviewing all the rules, policies and regulations of WDF in order to adopt them as new IDF rules and regulations.

We are receiving various emails and questions relating to the IDF World Soft Darts Championships and we are saving all of them in order to reply to all the questions as far as we completed the approval of the new policies and regulations. The great majority of these questions are going to be covered by the new policies and rules that we are adopting, following the WDF regulations and policies.

The signed partnership is the first step of our cooperation and we need to all work to adapt our structure to the new governance model.

In September WDF will also decide if IDF can be also an associate member but, this is a second step that is following the decision of the two federations to sign a partnerships agreement that will continue with or without the associate member status.

We kindly ask all our members to understand the process that the IDF board is going through and give us a little bit more time to settle on the new policies that are going to be adopted from the next competition.

The IDF World Soft Darts Championships will be a keystone of the future of our federation, including a great opportunity to show the results of our work.

Soon we are also going to present the sport calendar for the season 2026.

The IDF would like to thank all the WDF staff and board for supporting us and we are sure that all the IDF members, as far as all the WDF ones, will benefit from these actions.

WDF AND IDF ANNOUNCE AN HISTORICAL PARTNERSHIP AGREEMENT

The World Darts Federation (WDF) and The International Dart Federation (IDF) are pleased to announce the signing of an historical partnership agreement.

Under this partnership, the IDF recognizes the WDF as the governing body for all the darts disciplines, including soft darts, e-darts and para versions of the above-mentioned disciplines.

Under this provision, the WDF is delegating the management of the Soft Darts, e-darts and para versions of these disciplines to the IDF, giving the mandate to the IDF to be the Governing Body for these disciplines.

As part of the WDF General Meeting in September 2025 in Korea, the WDF Member Countries will be asked to vote on the inclusion of the IDF as WDF Associate Members.

The IDF and WDF will align procedures for membership and governance. WDF Member organizations in countries where there is no existing IDF Member organization can be granted IDF membership upon completion IDF Membership application and acknowledgement from the WDF.

Buddy Bartoletta, the WDF’s Interim President said: “The WDF is very happy to be able to enter this partnership with the IDF. As the governing body for the Sport of Darts we are proud to be able to entrust the management of the Soft Tip game to the IDF”

Marco Tomasini, CEO and Secretary General of the IDF said: “We are thrilled to work with WDF and to start a strong Partnerships that will provide beneficial results. WDF will be our main partner and we are happy and thrilled to finally be fully included inside the Sport System under the WDF”

World Darts Federation
WDF is the world governing body of darts and is a full member of AIMS (Alliance of Independent recognized Members of Sport). WDF is a full signatory of WADA. The World Anti-Doping Code (Code). The WDF organizes World and Continental Championships, Cups and ranking tournaments in Steel Darts in over 70 countries.

International Dart Federation
IDF is the world governing body of Soft Darts, Para Soft Darts, e-darts and Virtual Darts. IDF is member and recognized by several organizations like TAFISA, ICSSPE, FISpT, ICCE, IFSO and GEF. IDF is organizing World and Continental Championships, cups and ranking tournaments relating Soft Darts, e-darts and para soft darts. IDF is organizing also competitions worldwide relating soft Darts, e-darts and parasport version of soft darts and virtual darts.
