On this day 20 years ago, Estonian aeromodeller Toomas Mardna and co-pilot Juri Laidna made aviation history at Lake Maardu 🇪🇪

Launching their self-built piston-motor seaplane into a calm, clear sky at 4.57am, the duo set a remarkable world record that captured the spirit of aeromodelling 🛩️

👉🏻 A custom radio-controlled seaplane sporting a 3.38m wingspan and powered by an O.S FS-52S engine

👉🏻 Ground crews pursuing the aircraft in two chase cars along the lakeside at speeds of 70km/h

👉🏻 An incredible 111.01km out-and-return distance completed in 2 hours, 31 minutes, and 31 seconds

As the second person in Estonia to ever receive an FAI Sporting Licence (EST0002), Mardna has been a cornerstone of the country's aeromodelling community since day one.

Incredible as it is, this magnificent record still stands today! 🙌🏼
