Sea Turtle Week Special! Today, we’re testing your knowledge of the true icons of our oceans. Get ready, these shell-bound adventurers have a few surprises up their sleeves...

What do you think?
1️⃣ « They can be legendary sprinters. »
2️⃣ « They have an ultra-precise built-in GPS. » 👉 🗺️📍

Our objective is to promote educational tools to raise the younger generation’s awareness of our ecosystems’ vulnerabilities, in order to encourage more environmentally-friendly behavior.

Because ocean conservation begins in the classroom (and on the sand), education stands as one of our ultimate pillars.

7 species, one single family. Do you know them all? 🐢✨

The Hawksbill. Its shell, with its magnificent patterns, is unfortunately what threatened it in the past. It protects the reefs.

The Leatherback. It can weigh up to 900 kg and doesn’t have a hard shell, but rather a leathery skin. It loves jellyfish!

The Green Turtle. The only herbivore as an adult. It maintains our seagrass meadows and is currently threatened with extinction.

The Loggerhead. Recognizable by its large head and powerful jaws used to crush shells.

The Olive Ridley. Famous for its « arribadas »: thousands of turtles emerging from the water at the same time to lay their eggs.

The Kemp’s Ridley. They are the smallest and most endangered in the world. It nests almost exclusively on a single beach in Mexico!

The Australian. The Flatback. It is found only in Australia!

From the tiny Kemp’s Ridley (45kg) to the monumental Leatherback (900kg), the diversity of this family is fascinating.

The deadly mirage.

To a leatherback turtle, a plastic bag looks exactly like its favorite prey: the jellyfish.

It is a lethal trap. Once ingested, the plastic causes intestinal blockages that are often fatal. Unable to tell the difference, these species are seeing their populations decline because of a simple, everyday object.

At the Vilebrequin Foundation, our mission is to take action so the ocean becomes a safe haven once again. Clearing their horizon means, above all, saving lives.

This May 23rd, the world pauses for a moment to observe those who are never in a hurry. Symbols of slowness, resilience, and longevity, turtles embody another way of inhabiting the planet, based on balance, patience, and transmission. For millions of years, they have traversed the oceans and rivers with calm and constancy, crossing the ages as witnesses to the fragile balances between species and environments. Surviving climate change, they carry within them the deep memory of our planet. They embody a natural wisdom and remind us that it takes time to preserve life.

At the Vilebrequin Foundation, we have chosen to follow her lead: a life that takes the time to flourish, far from the urgency of modern life. By protecting them, it is an entire world we wish to defend.

Turtle gender and the sand: did you know? The temperature of the sand determines whether a baby turtle will be male or female. Incubation above 30-31°C generally produces females, while temperatures below 28°C produce more males..

71.5 pounds of trash removed from the Rockaway Beach ecosystem! 🌊🐢

Last Friday, the Vilebrequin Americas team traded their offices for the sandy shores of the USA for a day like no other. Vilbrequin Foundation and Vilberequin Americas joined forces for a major beach clean-up operation at Rockaway Beach.
Kudos to them for this achievement in favor of biodiversity! 🧹💪

Why this action?
The Foundation’s mission is clear: to preserve biodiversity and actively fight against marine pollution. , whose iconic emblem is the sea turtle, is actively committed to protecting the natural habitat of this endangered species.

Results of the day:
- 71.5 lbs (32.4 kg) of trash collected. 📦
- Countless cigarette butts and plastic caps removed from the sand.
- Unusual finds: a wet blanket, a pair of boots, and even a giant metal rod!

The generosity of the team—giving not only their time and energy but their heartfelt support—translates into a concrete contribution to the Foundation’s future initiatives. A huge thank you to everyone for your motivation and team spirit. 🤝✨

Together, let’s continue to make the ocean a safe haven for all living things. 💙

A breath of life: some sea turtles can hold their breath underwater for several hours, but they always return to the surface for a vital breath. During normal activity, they hold for 30 to 60 minutes, but sea turtles can sleep underwater for 4 to 7 hours by slowing down their metabolism.
During one of your dives, you might catch a glimpse of a green or hawksbill turtle napping under a rock ledge or nestled beneath a coral outcrop.

Why gather top experts in acoustics and wingfoiling on the shores of Hyères ?

The Vilebrequin Foundation is funding a groundbreaking scientific study in partnership with the (Port-Cros National Park). The goal is to measure the “acoustic signature” of these foils and evaluate how easily sea turtles can detect them.

To carry out this mission, we have brought together:
🔬 Hervé Glotin and the CIAN (Center for Artificial Intelligence in Natural Acoustics) for specialized sound analysis.
🏄‍♀️ , wingfoil world champion, who is lending her world-class skills to the service of science.

To understand better is to protect better: this is the first step toward a safer coexistence in the Mediterranean 🌊🐢

Did you know? By grazing on seagrass meadows, the green sea turtle (Chelonia mydas) helps the ocean store more carbon. Here’s how:

It prevents the over-accumulation of leaf biomass, which promotes plant regrowth and increases productivity.
Healthy, dense seagrass meadows are highly effective at capturing CO2 and storing it in sediments, where it can remain for centuries. In fact, seagrasses can store far more carbon per hectare than terrestrial forests.

This makes the green turtle a true ally for our climate.
