My goal is to bring Freedom and even more pleasure by releasing unnecessary strain. The key is not what you do, it’s how you do it.

Caelyn Knight was born in Cape Town, South Africa. She studied dance at the UCT Ballet School and then at the Princess Grace Academy in Monte Carlo. After a brief experience with a youth company (Europadanse), she became a member of the Lyon Opera Ballet. She danced the title roles in ‘Giselle’ by Mats Ek, in ‘Cendrillon’ by Maguy Marin and in ‘Romeo and Juliet’ by Angelin Prejlocaj. She has performed in pieces by William Forsythe, Pina Bausch, Jiri Kylián, Mats Ek, Peeping Tom, Ohad Naharin, Marcos Morau, Merce Cunningham, Trisha Brown, Emanuel G*t, Pierre Droulers, Nacho Duato and Lucinda Childs, Angelin Prejlocaj, Benjamin Millepied, Johan Inger, Pierre Pontvianne, Sarah Michelson, Odile Duboq, Boris Charmatz, Rachid Ouramdane, Jérôme Bel, Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker, Maguy Marin, Alessandro Sciarroni and Fabrice Mazliah.
Caelyn has been teaching and coaching in companies such as Lyon Opera Ballet and Theater Ballet Basel, and with students of the National Conservatory of Lyon (Conservatoire National Supérieur de Danse). She started freelancing at the end of 2023. Since then, she has been part of various projects including as a guest dancer at the Theater Basel.

Meet the faces behind our exciting new collaboration!

We are thrilled to announce a brand-new collaboration between Ballett Basel and Tanzbüro Basel for the 2026/2027 season 🎊

Theater Basel is co-hosting the official Ballett Profitraining program, bridging the gap between institutional ballet and our amazing local independent dancers.
The classes will be led directly by dancers from the ensemble!

When: Every Saturday from 3:00 PM to 4:30 PM
Where: Theater Basel, Rehearsal Stage IV (Probe-Studio IV). Access via the stage entrance. See video below.
Spots: Limited to 20 participants per session.

Please arrive already dressed in your training gear, as studio access relies on nearby restrooms for changing.

LAB Contemporary Training

interpretive, articulate, exploratory

This LAB explores how verbal material can become movement. Through guided improvisation and a simple choreographic framework, participants translate words, phrases and ideas into individual physical interpretations, paying attention to coordination, articulation and the choices that emerge in the process. The work favours time, precision and personal agency over speed or fixed intensity. Each
session stands on its own, while the second day also offers the possibility to continue and deepen the same framework.

Kihako Narisawa *1984 (she/her) is an interdisciplinary performing artist, choreographer, dancer and designer, born and raised in Tokyo and based in Basel. Her practice combines choreography, installation, sound, text, video and live performance, exploring identity, visibility, language and
embodied communication through intercultural, intersectional and spatial perspectives. Recent works include quite quiet (ROXY Birsfelden, 2026) and layer(s), developed through Forecast Platform with Hussein Chalayan and presented at Radialsystem and Gropius Bau Berlin in 2025. She holds an MA in interdisciplinary design from HGK FHNW.

Strengthening, flying, circling, core

In the Vertical Dance Training at Profitraining Basel, I open my practice to professional contemporary
dancers to rediscover the body through a dialogue with gravity. In the vertical space of the wall,
movement unfolds through flying, melting, strengthening, and spiraling. Together, we explore the artistic
and technical language of vertical dance, where the rope becomes a partner, the wall transforms into the
floor, and our sense of orientation is rediscovered. Rooted in rigorous physical practice and open artistic
research, the training offers space for improvisation, experimentation, and the expansion of each dancer’s
movement vocabulary

Rebekka G*ther is a dancer and choreographer specializing in Vertical Dance. She studied at the
Accademia Teatro Dimitri. Since 2021, she opens the Vertical Dance Hub Basel, a space dedicated to
training, workshops, and performances in vertical dance. In 2021/2023, she created work with the duo
Tempo di Borea. In 2024, she founded her own company, Rebekka G*ther Vertical Dance. Her work has
toured across Europe and has been presented at numerous festivals and venues. Since 2023, she has been
teaching vertical dance as a guest lecturer at the ZHDK. In 2024, Rebekka staged the vertical dance
performance “Maze” at the Konzert und Theater St. Gallen.
