Every Trash Hero chapter started the same way. Someone noticed something - a beach, a river, a street - and decided not to walk past it.

Starting a chapter doesn't require experience or a big budget. It requires a small team, a few hours a week, and a reason to show up. We provide the handbook, the mentorship, and a global network of people who've done exactly what you're thinking about doing.
No registration fee. No membership fee. Just show up - and keep showing up.

A plastic kitchen detox doesn't start with buying new things. It starts with three simple rules: no heat, no grease, no acid.
Heat is where plastic causes the most harm - microwaving, boiling, dishwashing, storing hot food. Greasy and acidic foods draw chemicals out of plastic packaging faster than almost anything else.
The good news? Most of the swaps are free! Glass jars from pasta sauce or jam work perfectly, let things cool before storing, transfer to ceramic before microwaving and use up what you have. When you're ready to go deeper - our free Educate Yourself Zero Waste course is a good next step. 🌱

When he says ""just bin it"" but she says ""absolutely not."" 😤🍱

Bringing your own container and taking leftovers home is one of the simplest ways to reduce food waste - and it costs nothing extra.

Here's a fact worth knowing: food waste is responsible for around 8-10% of global greenhouse gas emissions. That unfinished lunch? It actually matters more than you think. So next time you're out, bring a container, finish what you can and take the rest home. Your future self - and the planet - will thank you. 🌍

A plastic bag floating in the ocean looks exactly like a jellyfish - the favourite food of many sea turtles. That's not a coincidence. That's a design flaw nobody fixed.
Over 50% of sea turtles have ingested plastic. A turtle has a 22% chance of dying from just one piece. At 14 pieces, that chance is 50%.
Our volunteers clean coastlines every week because beach plastic doesn't stay on the beach. It breaks down, washes out, and ends up somewhere a turtle might mistake it for food.
This World Turtle Day, we're thinking about what every cleanup is protecting. 🐢🌱

Most people know bees are in trouble. Fewer people know that plastic is part of why.
Microplastics are turning up in the flowers bees forage on, the water they drink, and even the nests they build. Some wild bees are collecting plastic particles as nesting material - affecting the temperature and moisture their larvae need to survive.
Nearly 90% of wild flowering plants depend on pollinators to reproduce. Bees aren't a side story in the plastic crisis. They're right in the middle of it.
This World Bee Day, less plastic is one of the simplest things we can do for them. 🐝🌱

Beautiful beach with hidden problems.
Microplastics are now found on virtually every beach in the world - including this one. These tiny plastic particles, less than 5mm in size, come from broken-down plastic waste, synthetic clothing fibres, and single-use products.

Unfortunately, they don't disappear but just get smaller - and smaller means harder to see, harder to remove, and easier to swallow by marine life, by fish, and eventually by us.

Beach cleanups help remove plastic before it breaks down further, but the real solution starts before plastic ever reaches the shore - with less plastic being produced in the first place.

Every beach is worth protecting. 🌱

You've probably wondered why there's so much plastic everywhere - and why, despite all the awareness and all the reusable bags, it keeps getting worse.
The answer is bigger than individual choices. It lives in systems, in policy, in products designed to be thrown away.
We built a free nine-module course to help you understand all of it with no sign-up, no pressure. Just honest, clear information - at your own pace.
Because understanding the problem is the first step to demanding better solutions.

You bring your tumbler and ready to refill, but there's no refill point anywhere - just rows of plastic bottles.🤨

It doesn't have to be this way!

Businesses like in Bandung, Indonesia are proving it - offering water refills as part of their everyday operations, reducing single-use plastic one bottle at a time.

Like Teh Tiwi says, refill points should be everywhere - at events, in cafés, at public facilities, in shops.
The more infrastructure there is, the more waste we can reduce. 💛
If you own a business or organise events, you can be part of the solution. 🌱

✅ Ready to commit? Set up your refill station (jug, filter tap or dispenser), snap a photo and register at the link in our bio.

You'll get a free listing on the Trash Hero refill map, so people can find you - and know your business is making a real difference.
