The foundation HalfwayHouse was founded in Switzerland by Désirée and Phil after many years working with street dogs in Thailand in May 2012. In April 2016 we renamed our foundation to HalfwayHouse 4 Paws.
We are actively engaged and committed to achieve the following goals for dogs and cats in need, especially in Thailand:
- Educating the local population about animal welfare
- Providing shelter for dogs and cats in need
WHAT WE DO
Before 2015 we were active mainly on Phuket, Thailand.
The situation on Phuket had drastically improved over the years and there were more and more other rescue foundations getting involved.
When we discovered Koh Lipe (remote island in the south of Thailand) we found that the strays on Koh Lipe were much more in need because the Island was lacking of even the most basic supplies to help these animals.
There were no veterinary or medical care programs, regular spay&neuter programs, or feeding programs at all in place and the overpopulation was massive.
The suffering of the stray dogs and cats on Koh Lipe was back in 2015 simply unbearable and this is why we stepped in immediately.
Our first mobile clinic to spay&neuter strays on Koh Lipe took place in the beginning of 2015.
In 2016 we learned that there was another small foundation (Animal Care Lipe) in the Netherlands founded that had the intention to help the strays on Koh Lipe. We got in touch and decided to cooperate. Since then we are running the project help4strays together on Koh Lipe.
Animal Care Lipe is currently mainly involved by doing part of the fundraising.
Spay & Neuter
Our mobile clinics on Koh Lipe, that are held at regular intervals are making a significant dent in overpopulation
Medical Care
We provide basic medical care for the strays on Koh Lipe as well as intensive medical care for those who are suffering form life threatening health conditions.
Feeding
With our feeding program we provide food for the strays on Koh Lipe. Feeding is a crucial factor in preventing strays from getting aggressive and to earn their trust which makes it easier to catch them for spay & neuter and treatments.
Long Term Care & Adoptions
Often animals are in need for long term care for rehabilitation or because they can't cope well with the life on the streets i.e. because of age or disabilities.
For many years we didn't have a shelter and we were forced to work with pet boarding facilities and fosters in order to grant long term care. This was very costly. We are proud and very happy that our first Animal Rescue Center finally opened it's doors on Koh Lipe in June 2019.
We are still at the very begin with our Animal Rescue Center on Koh Lipe and it is not built completely finish yet but thanks to the Sunflower Lipe Guesthouse and our supporters who helped with donations our vision finally came true in June 2019.
The Sunflower Lipe Guesthouse was founded by the founders of HalwayHouse 4 Paws and supports our Help 4 Strays project sustainable and on a long term base financially with part of the profit and by providing the needed land and room to run our Animal Rescue Center. This is simply amazing!!!
This not only helps us to reduce the monthly costs for transports and long-term care but also enables us to help more strays in need in a more efficient way.
Our goal is to find loving homes for those strays that are in our long term care and unable to cope well with the life on the streets i.e. because of age or disabilities.

Der Verein HalfwayHouse wurde nach langjähriger Arbeit mit Strassenhunden in Thailand im Mai 2012 in der Schweiz gegründet. Im April 2016 haben wir den Verein in HalfwayHouse 4 Paws umbenannt.
Wir engagieren uns aktiv, um folgende Ziele für die notleidenden Hunde und Katzen insbesondere in Thailand zu erreichen:
- Fütterung, Sterilisation, Impfung und Entwurmung herrenloser Hunde und Katzen
- Veterinärmedizinische Versorgung und fachgerechte Pflege verletzter oder kranker Tiere
- Aufklärung der lokalen Bevölkerung über artgerechte Tierhaltung
- Beherbergung von notleidenden Tieren
