Quantum computing could transform everything from medicine and climate modelling to logistics and materials science - but as the technology evolves, so does the need for a shared foundation.

Without common standards, rapid innovation risks creating fragmentation, incompatible systems and technical confusion. International Standards help create a common language for emerging technologies, supporting interoperability, collaboration and trust across industries and borders.

That’s why ISO and International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) established a dedicated technical committee for quantum technologies, including the development of ISO/IEC 4879:2024, which defines the official vocabulary for quantum computing worldwide.

As quantum moves from the lab towards real-world application, standards will play a critical role in shaping how the technology is developed, understood and adopted globally.

Biodiversity loss is a global challenge. But action happens locally. This year’s International Day for Biological Diversity theme, “Acting locally for global impact,” reminds us that protecting biodiversity starts in communities, cities, organizations and everyday decisions. 🌱

The world already has a shared vision through the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. Now, organizations need practical tools to turn ambition into action.

This is where International Standards can help. ISO 17298 - Biodiversity: Considering biodiversity in the strategy and operations of organizations - Requirements and guidelines, helps organizations integrate biodiversity into strategy, decision-making and operations. 🌿

Today, ISO will represent ISO at the Geneva Environment Network event: “Leveraging Local and Global Action for Nature Towards the UN Biodiversity Conference COP17 | From Geneva to Yerevan.” As we look ahead to the UN Biodiversity Conference COP17 in Armenia, we look forward to continuing the conversation on how standards can support coordinated biodiversity action worldwide.

If you will be at - let’s connect.

As countries strengthen their commitments on climate adaptation, local governments are at the centre of turning those commitments into real action.

From resilient infrastructure and public services to land-use planning and community preparedness, municipalities need practical tools to plan, implement and monitor adaptation efforts in a credible and consistent way.

That is why ISO Environmental Management, together with the Standards Council of Canada (SCC), ICONTEC, INTECO - Instituto de Normas Técnicas de Costa Rica and Trinidad and Tobago Bureau of Standards are launching a free multilingual webinar series on climate adaptation planning for local governments and communities.

📘 Building on ISO 14092 — the international standard on adaptation planning for local governments and communities — the series will guide participants through practical approaches to governance, climate risk assessment, implementation, monitoring and continual improvement.

Through expert insights and practical examples, the sessions aim to help municipalities strengthen local resilience and move from climate commitments to measurable action.

Environmental performance is no longer managed at the margins of business. It now shapes investment decisions, supply chain resilience, market access and long-term competitiveness.

The updated edition of ISO 14001:2026 reflects this shift, strengthening the connection between environmental management, measurable outcomes and business performance.

With clearer requirements, stronger leadership accountability and a sharper focus on today’s environmental challenges, ISO 14001:2026 helps organizations better assess risks, improve decision-making and embed environmental considerations into strategy and operations.

Building on a trusted foundation, the new edition is designed for a changing world.

Last week’s Geneva Cybersecurity Week highlighted an important theme: supply chain security requires an ecosystem-wide response.
A speaker at our session, Kristy Paine, Splunk Field CTO and Strategic Advisor, stated how real progress depends on multiple stakeholders aligning around a common, interoperable security baseline. Purchasers also have significant influence, using contracts to establish minimum security expectations and drive improvements across the industry.
Even small changes in cybersecurity requirements can help raise the baseline for everyone across the supply chain.

The updated edition of the world’s most widely used environmental management systems standard gives decision-makers a clear, practical framework to manage environmental responsibility while driving business outcomes.
Building on a trusted foundation, ISO 14001:2026 helps leaders improve performance, optimize costs, and stay ahead of regulatory requirements.
With stronger alignment to today’s priorities, from climate change to resource efficiency, the updated standard supports more confident, informed decision-making, helping organizations make a tangible difference.

In our latest ISO–Greenhouse Gas Protocol webinar, our panel of experts explored why product-level data is becoming essential for real-world decision-making across value chains.
Key takeaways from the discussion included:
👉 Greater alignment is essential. Reducing fragmentation can improve transparency and make carbon data more actionable for policymakers.
👉 Organizations can’t manage what they can’t measure. Real action hinges on the availability of primary, product-level data.
👉 Collaboration is key. No single lever will solve this alone. Policy, data systems and standards must evolve together as interlocking parts.
Thank you to our speakers and partners from the ‌Greenhouse Gas Protocol for a rich and insightful conversation - and to everyone who joined us online.
If you missed it, the full webinar is now available to rewatch on-demand at the link in our bio.

ISO at Geneva Cyber Week 2026 - Cyber resilience is not built through policy alone but is built through implementation, coordination and shared standards.

Key takeaways:
🌐 Standards like ISO/IEC 27001 provide a common language for cybersecurity governance - scalable, globally recognized and built for real-world complexity.
⚠️ Fragmented approaches create vulnerabilities. Alignment across sectors, supply chains and jurisdictions is what builds lasting resilience.
✅ Certification and conformity assessment close the loop, turning implementation into verified, trusted practice.

To close the day, ISO Programme Manager Cindy Parokkil took the stage tackling disinformation in the age of AI.
Stating the challenge is not only detecting what is fake but is in building the trust infrastructure needed to understand where content comes from.

ISO at Geneva Cyber Week 2026 - Cyber resilience is not built through policy alone but is built through implementation, coordination and shared standards.

Kicking off yesterday morning, we hosted a thought-provoking session reinforcing cybersecurity through International Standards. The message was clear: policy sets the direction, but standards support the implementation.

Behind every framework, every standard, every policy discussion, there are real people. Páll Magnússon brought that reminder: standards matter because children and communities are on the other side of every digital product and service we build.

And to close the day, ISO Programme Manager Cindy Parokkil took the stage tackling disinformation in the age of AI.
She stated, "the challenge is not only detecting what is fake. It is building the trust infrastructure needed to understand where content comes from, whether authenticity signals can be trusted, and who is accountable when harm occurs. International standards and conformity assessment, together with practical tools like the Prevent-Detect-Respond framework, can help turn global commitments on information integrity into concrete, rights-respecting action."

We thank our hosts and speakers for making hashtag a success.
