Congratulations to ISO Technical Committee 22, Road vehicles, recipient of the 2026 Lawrence D. Eicher (LDE) Leadership Award, one of ISO's most prestigious honours, recognizing the committee's outstanding contribution to International Standards for the road vehicles sector.

For nearly 80 years, the committee's experts have developed standards that support vehicle safety, quality and performance while helping the automotive sector navigate emerging challenges such as cybersecurity, digitalization and sustainability.

A week of conversations, collaboration and shared purpose comes to a close in Paris.

From new digital developments to fresh commitments and partnerships, this year’s Annual Meeting brought members together to shape the future of international standards. More than 1,000 joined us in person, with thousands more connecting online from across the international ISO community.

A few highlights from yesterday:

✅ The Paris Statement: Proposed by AFNOR members adopted this Statement, reaffirming the role of International Standards in building resilience, adapting to climate change and protecting nature.

✅ Launch of digitally enhanced content: Together with IEC Standards , we marked an important step in the ongoing evolution of standards, launching a new digital experience that makes trusted content easier to navigate, understand and apply.

✅ Strengthening ISOlutions: We welcomed the Uzbek Institute of Standards as it formalized its continued engagement in ISOlutions, helping connect members with shared digital services tailored to their needs and readiness.

✅ Voices shaping our future: Young professionals shared their reflections and ideas on strengthening youth contributions to standards development and creating more opportunities for meaningful involvement.

✅ Lawrence D. Eicher Award: ISO/TC 22 Road vehicles received this prestigious honour for its outstanding contribution to the development of standards and its impact on the global automotive industry.

✅ Regional Forums: Members led these sessions, bringing forward the topics and priorities to discuss and share.

Thank you to everyone who contributed, participated and helped make 2026 such a memorable week.

Today at the ISO Annual Meeting 2026, we adopted the Paris Statement, reaffirming the role of International Standards in supporting global efforts to build greater resilience, adapt to climate change and protect nature.

Proposed by AFNOR Group, the Statement builds on our climate commitment and reflects the growing need to complement mitigation with stronger action on adaptation, ecosystem resilience and nature conservation.

It also reinforces environmental sustainability as a priority of the ISO Strategy 2030, alongside the Paris Agreement, the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and wider global efforts on adaptation and resilience.

As ISO President Dr Khaled Soufi said at this afternoon’s General Assembly: “This is a symbol of our collective determination to turn climate commitments into concrete action.”

International Standards help turn that determination into reality, providing practical, trusted frameworks to manage risk, strengthen resilience and translate global commitments into implementation.

What does the future of standards look like in practice?

Day 3 of the hashtag explored how trust is built and strengthened in a changing world through digital transformation, quality, collaboration and knowledge-sharing across the ISO community.

🔸 Peer-to-peer exchange: At the ISO Village’s hashtag and demo area, members brought digital evolution to life by sharing knowledge and practical lessons. From transforming standards development and delivering standards in a digital world to making the most of new tools, the focus was on learning and supporting each other as they move forward.

🔸Trust and quality in focus: Conversations explored how organizations can build confidence and create long-term value through quality, with the new edition of ISO 9001 showing how quality management can help put those principles into practice. World Trade Organization Deputy Director-General Jean-Marie Paugam broadened the dialogue to trust across borders, predictability, cooperation and the role of International Standards in global trade.

Across the day, workshops and member meetings brought diverse perspectives together around a shared focus: turning trust into action.
