Documenting the intersection of Indigenous rights and environmental protection, few stories have been as strong as that of a member of the Babuluko Pygmy community from North Kivu in the DRC.

For his safety, he remains anonymous.

The Congo Basin is one of the world’s main lungs, but for the Babuluko hunter gatherers, it is simply home. It is also, however, a site of extreme prejudice and systemic injustice. This video shares being forcibly removed from their ancestral forests, and despite a dire scenario, resiliently looking for ways forward. As the global community pushes for the 30x30 goal, this is an urgent call to ensure that conservation measures respect those who know the land best.
