🇿🇦 South Africa’s rollout of lenacapavir starts today.

The twice-yearly long-acting injectable for HIV prevention will be introduced at 360 government facilities nationwide, expanding prevention choice and marking an important step forward for the country’s HIV response.

As one of the first countries to make lenacapavir available through public health services, South Africa is helping translate scientific progress into real-world impact for people and communities most affected by HIV.

It is often said that health is wealth and South Africa’s launch of the game changing Lenacapavir injectable today, Friday, 5 June 2026, provides a shot in the arm that will boost South Africa’s fight against HIV and AIDS.

👏 Congratulations to IAS President Beatriz Grinsztejn on being awarded the prestigious Christophe Mérieux Prize 2026.

Presented by Institut de France, the prize recognizes outstanding research on infectious diseases in low- and middle-income countries.
