Dear all,
Over the past 12 years, our mission at HOBI has been to empower women in Afghanistan through an innovative program. Groups of women were provided with materials and paid to knit woolen items for newborns, while participating in monthly meetings focused on health education, community leadership, and peer support. Additionally, supporters from around the world contributed by knitting baby sweaters and sending them to Afghanistan. These knitted items were distributed to maternity facilities across Kabul, encouraging safe births in healthcare settings. The knitted woolen items also play a vital role in helping with thermoregulation for newborns, a crucial factor in their survival.
Alongside this, we aimed to enhance women’s social, economic, and educational empowerment, and we have always strived for what’s best for Afghanistan’s future. Birth does not discriminate on gender, and every child—boy or girl—deserves a healthy start in life.
It is with great sadness that, after 12 years, HOBI will be pausing its activities indefinitely. The growing challenges and restrictions have made it increasingly difficult for a small volunteer-based NGO to continue working in collaboration with Afghanistan.
Our partner organization, Omaid Afghanistan Humanitarian Services, is well-positioned to continue these critical efforts but is in need of financial support to do so. If you are interested in supporting them, please reach out, and we can act as intermediaries to ensure their work continues.

We are extremely grateful to everyone who supports the HOBI mission, be it by donating knitted item(s) or wool, funds and/or time through various forms of volunteering to support our activities in Afghanistan. Thank you.
Now, more than ever, the need for women’s social, economic, and educational empowerment is crucial.
