We’re excited to welcome the Zuzu Holding Hands Cancer Foundation as a new member!

Since 2022, the Namibian foundation has stood beside children and adults affected by cancer through hospital visits, awareness campaigns, support programmes, education, and community outreach. Their actions are rooted in the conviction that healing is not only found in medicine, but also in kindness, dignity, and care.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month has been observed in October since the eighties. It is called "Pink October" as people around the world adopt the pink colour and display a pink ribbon to raise awareness about the importance of prevention and routine screening for the early diagnosis of breast cancer, the second most common cancer globally, behind lung cancer.

As UICC member organisations around the world are taking action in October, UICC is highlighting their work, strengthening advocacy efforts, and providing resources to support equitable access to breast cancer care.

UICC's General Assembly 2026 will meet virtually on 20 October 2026 to welcome Dr Zainab Shinkafi-Bagudu as President and elect the Board of Directors and President-elect for 2026–2028.

Every two years, the General Assembly brings together UICC members to review the organisation's work, set its future direction and elect its leadership. Only full UICC members are eligible to vote.

The General Assembly 2026 will be chaired by outgoing President Ulrika Årehed Kågström. In addition to the President-elect, members will also vote for 14 Board members from a shortlist of 24 candidates. Their profiles are also available on the UICC website.

Reducing the global burden of cancer requires stronger collaboration across research, policy, healthcare, innovation and civil society.

Momentum is a new European cancer conference convened by the Swedish Cancer Society () and endorsed by UICC, EACS, IARC, and Cancer Patients Europe.

For three days in Stockholm, leaders from across sectors will meet to bridge the gap between scientific discovery and impact for patients in Europe. Through discussions, roundtables and collaborative sessions, the conference aims to contribute concrete ideas and priorities for how Europe can accelerate the implementation of cancer research.

We look forward to joining the conversations in Stockholm from 14-16 October 2026 and contributing to this important initiative.

Cancer research and progress was a major theme of the World Cancer Research Day 2026, shaping many of the discussions, sessions, and activities throughout the event.

While we were busy bringing together the global cancer community in Hong Kong, we also marked World Cancer Research Day and its 10th anniversary.

This year's theme, "Advancing Cancer Research Together," highlights the power of collaboration between researchers, healthcare professionals, policymakers, patient advocates and people affected by cancer to drive meaningful progress.

The 2026 World Cancer Research Day event, hosted by the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC), a UICC member, in Brussels on 23 September, brought together researchers, patient representatives, healthcare professionals, funders and policymakers to examine current challenges and future directions in cancer research.

In El Salvador, the UICC-led Access to Oncology Medicines Coalition works with the Ministry of Health and the Asociación Salvadoreña para la prevención del Cáncer (ASAPRECAN), a UICC member, to strengthen the institutional, regulatory and technical foundations required for a stronger cancer ecosystem and future access to innovative cancer care.
