For the second year in a row, friends and members of the GIA gathered early on Saturday morning for the Darkness into Light 5 km walk to raise awareness about su***de and self-harm.

Too many lives are touched by the loss of a loved one to su***de, or the news of such a loss, in an age when mental health and anxiety are major concerns especially among the young and those living in precarious circumstances.

It was a deeply meaningful event for all involved and each participant made a donation to support Pieta in Ireland and Trauernetz in Switzerland.

Many thanks to all who supported this worthy cause

It’s been a busy and enjoyable start to the year. Following a great turnout at our fondue evening and the “Irish Night in Thônex” to celebrate St Patrick’s Day, we held our AGM on 21 April at Le Liotard (many thanks to Julia and Vítor for hosting).

We were pleased to welcome 21 members in person, along with 22 proxies. The past year was positively reviewed, including the success of our 50th anniversary gala lunch.

The following committee was proposed and approved:

Pat Murphy – President (re-appointed)
Deirdre McBride – Vice President (re-appointed)
Karl Richardson – Treasurer (re-appointed)
Niall Lehane – Secretary (re-appointed)
Louise McGrath – Committee Member (re-appointed)
Kevin Gaughran – Committee Member (re-appointed)
John Lawlor – Committee Member (newly appointed)

Please feel free to reach out to any of us if you have any questions, comments or suggestions to benefit the GIA
