🎙️ ROUNDTABLE 🌍

When Geopolitics Shapes Economics: Tariffs, Interdependencies and Chokepoints

Tariffs, sanctions, export restrictions and shifting supply chains are no longer simply economic or commercial issues. Increasingly, they shape international relations, influence diplomatic priorities and redefine how countries, regions and businesses engage with one another.

Recent developments offer a striking reminder that diplomacy can no longer be understood as a matter solely between states. Its dynamics directly impact a wide range of actors, from businesses and investors to international organisations and civil society.

🔎 To explore these transformations and their concrete implications, the CCIG and the International Institute for Diplomacy – Switzerland (IID) are bringing together experts for a roundtable on the growing intersection of geopolitics, trade and diplomacy, taking place on Thursday, 1 October.

The roundtable will bring together:

▫️ Didier Chambovey, former Swiss Ambassador to the WTO OMC and EFTA Secretariat
▫️ Gaël Poget, Vice President, Government Affairs, MSC Mediterranean Shipping Co
▫️ Florence Schurch, Secretary General, suissenegoce.ch
▫️ Vincent Subilia, Director General, Chambre de commerce de Genève
▫️ Pablo Demierre, President and Founder, International Institute for Diplomacy - Switzerland (IID)

📅 Thursday, 1 October 2026
⌚ 12:00–14:00
📍 CCIG, Boulevard du Théâtre 4, Geneva

🗣️ Please note that this event will be held in English.
Preferential rates are available for IID and CCIG members.

🎓 Meet the IID Alumni

We are pleased to feature Mr. Théophile Olivier Bosse, First Counsellor at the Permanent Mission of Cameroon to the United Nations in Geneva 🇺🇳.

💼 A career diplomat, he joined the IID module “Mastering Trade Diplomacy: Let’s Talk About Tariffs” to strengthen his expertise in a rapidly evolving global trade environment.

📊 The programme enabled him to develop practical negotiation tools, deepen his understanding of tariffs as strategic policy instruments, and gain valuable insights from experienced practitioners.

🌍 Beyond individual growth, such training plays a key role for Cameroon, supporting efforts to protect national interests, optimise revenues, and strengthen its position in international negotiations.

📈 His experience reflects IID’s mission: equipping professionals to navigate and shape today’s global economic landscape.
