What did ’s 2026 elections look like for ? 🇿🇲

Not only as voters, but also as candidates, leaders and decision-makers.

🚺 Our local partner, the Zambia National Women's Lobby (ZNWL), was on the ground monitoring whether women could participate fully in the electoral process and have an equal opportunity to lead and be represented using a gender-responsive checklist developed by the Electoral Support Network of Southern Africa (ESN-SA).

That’s 53.1% of all registered voters.

🇿🇲 votes tomorrow. We’ve been getting ready for weeks.

It began with 8 Zambia National Women's Lobby (ZNWL) trainers learning from the Electoral Support Network of Southern Africa (ESN-SA) how to observe elections through a gender lens. 🎓

They then began passing that knowledge on to election observers, starting with 30 observers trained in Lusaka, followed by further trainings reaching hundreds more across Zambia.

Across Africa, citizen election observers continue to protect democracy as civic space comes under pressure.

From 23-24 September, they will come together in Accra (Ghana) for the third edition of the Electoral Integrity Summit in Africa. 🇬🇭
