✊ Global day of action ✊
Last Tuesday, 20 May 2026, TK Elevator workers, from across the globe, stood up together and sent a clear message: No secret deals without workers' approval.
🇰🇷 In Korea, hundreds of members of the TK Elevator Korea Chapter, Korean Metal Workers'Union (KMWU) rallied at the Cheonan Campus demanding job security and full transparency in the KONE–TKE merger process.
🇩🇪 In Germany, IG Metall took to the streets, bringing the fight for workers' rights to the heart of Europe. A powerful reminder that this is not just a global issue, but one felt right at home where this deal was struck.
🇦🇺 In Melbourne, lift workers from AMWU - Australian Manufacturing Workers' Union Victoria and ETU Victoria joined in global solidarity, calling on TKE and KONE to begin immediate consultations with unions worldwide.
🇧🇷 Workers in Brazil also raised their voices as part of this worldwide mobilization.
IndustriALL director for base metals and mechanical engineering, Alex Ivanou, said: "The KONE–TK Elevator deal is a textbook example of how not to handle a mega-merger. Over 100,000 workers discovered the biggest change in their working lives through the financial press, without a word of advance notice from either company. The GFA, the EWC, the Global Workers Council agreement are binding commitments, not formalities and they have been ignored. Workers are responding. From Australia to Brazil, affiliates have mobilized and the message is clear: unless KONE formally assumes all existing agreements and enters into genuine consultation, this deal will face sustained opposition from unions on every continent."
IndustriALL Global Union and IndustriAll Europe demand:
🔹 Immediate and genuine consultation with workers' representatives,
🔹 job and site guarantees globally,
🔹 full respect for collective bargaining agreements,
🔹 no so-called synergies at workers' expense.
The workforce is not a commodity. It is the very foundation of this company. 💪
